Forward Thinking
Great company with an outstanding culture. Excellent work-life balance. Good benefits. This is a forward thinking company with their eye on growth while working hard to maintain a casual, fun, team-centric culture.
None that I have seen.

Continue to maintain the upbeat culture and team-centric atmosphere. A little formal training for new employees would be helpful and appreciated.

Great place to work, but lacks stability
Great work environment. Great people. Great pay. Fulfilling work, especially if you love books. Great product/service.
Transparency is lacking. Upper management in the office does a good job at keeping employees in the loop, but the parent company who calls the shots may have some hidden zingers every now and then. If you work here, enjoy the ride, but keep your options open just in case.

Keep up the good work, management. Only suggestion I have is to work toward more transparency between the parent company and the employees. There is nothing worse than being blindsided by critical changes in direction, so work toward ensuring that doesn't happen to the employees.

In a Slow Death Decline
A very relaxed environment with flexible hours and a lot of remote work opportunity. Small company with very little red tape. Food, snacks, and drinks for free. It's a cool product that HAD potential.
They just laid off most of their developers, QA, and business development team, and have essentially given up on growing the product. Ownership doesn't believe that the product can succeed so they are just milking what little they have left. Even before the layoffs some of the key players in creating BookShout's success started quitting (like the head developer and the head salesperson) and the former CEO was forced out. Current leadership is lacking.

There is a large disconnect between BookShout and their ownership group on what the vision of the product is and can be. BookShout believes that they have a ebook reader that will help readers track their reading and share social aspects, while the ownership group views it only as a bulk purchasing/promo code redeeming reader. BookShout management is out of touch with the ownership group, and the ownership group doesn't believe that BookShout will succeed long term. This has led to recklessness and no real direction.

Cool people but no direction
- Smart People
- Interesting problems to solve
- Free snacks, casual environment
- Zero direction for the company / constantly pivoting
- Owners like to layoff engineers in favor of sales people
- Lot of technical debt

Take your chances
Was a great place to work. Lots of team building outings, sociable coworkers, and your part of a trendy new industry.
Location and new corporate management. They don't offer to shift you to a new position within the company, they just kick you to the curb. So even though there are open positions, they sill lay people off.
