Much to my delight, working at Boulder Care has turned out to be as great an experience as I had hoped it would be. I knew the mission, strategy and leadership were all really strong, but I am thrilled to see the depth and breadth of employee and provider satisfaction here.

The entire staff, from leadership to the dedicated care teams, is passionately committed to the mission of delivering exceptional services to those in need. I've never been part of such a purpose-driven organization. Remarkably, every single person I interacted with, without exception, not only welcomes feedback but actively encourages and appreciates it. This continuous feedback loop fosters ongoing improvements and made me feel that my voice was heard. My time at Boulder was immensely fulfilling, and I will always stand behind and applaud their efforts in making a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals.

Had potential.

Strong potential to fulfill high need for access to evidence-based care for folks experiencing opioid use disorder. A mostly-strong base of full time clinicians who are experienced in treating OUD and who bring valuable insight and strong clinical decision making skills to the table. Better compensation than most healthcare orgs for licensed folks. Could be better consider the level of productivity they desire. Good benefits package. PTO is no longer unlimited or “take what you need”.

Unprofessional clinical leadership. Very clear culture differences and perks between patient-facing group and app/software group. Strong white-savior complex among leadership across the company. Lack of any DEI lens - no diversity in leadership hires. Decline in continuity of care - moved towards mostly same-day appointments via virtual waiting room model. Ever evolving clinical care landscape without clear communication to patient-facing employees. No clear communication for patients when changes to care are made.

Hire new clinical leadership. Replace the medical director with someone who has strong medical leadership, proven track record in that role regarding QI outcomes, and business acumen. Goal should not be someone whose desire is to be “chummy” with staff. Respectability is more important than likeability. If Boulder wants to be a change-maker in this space, clinicians will need someone who can provide clear sense of direction of the organization.
