The way you gaslight every single person in the company is astonishing. Joel NEEDS to step away from the business into an advisory role, or just not one at all. There is a reason you lost all of those incredibly talented leads and IC's, and it wasn't COVID. Stop asking for honesty and transparency when you don't actually want it.
This is meant as constructive criticism, there's a reason you're not making any money, and haven't been for over four years.

Great colleagues, culture seems great on the surface but has some serious issues when you dig deeper

Remote first culture, a lot of empathetic and caring employees, opportunity to travel globally for company retreats, 4 day workweek, good work life balance.
|
- Typical founder-CEO problems. The CEO has never led a bigger company, has minimal other industry experience, and didn’t bring in or encourage new viewpoints (execs were mostly promoted from within). - The company considers itself very inclusive, but that inclusivity is centered around its white, millennial, mostly male, early employee group who hold and exert most of the power. Outsiders are unlikely to get into the inner circles where the power/influence is. - They’ve fired their last 3 employees in charge of diversity and inclusion, including 2 talented Black women, and have fired or been unable to retain many of their other Black employees. - Limited career growth opportunities due to lack of company growth.

Candidates Beware

-Remote work
-Some very kind and compassionate people who care about one another
-Retreats, when they happen
-Sabbatical at 5 yrs - take notes from others and use it to plan your exit.
-Compensation for international employees is great (paid at US market rate), for US employees it’s mediocre and comparable to other small tech companies. Additional benefits that once were novel are industry standard now.

-If you’re looking to progress in your career, don’t plan on staying more than 1-2 years.
-4 day workweek that they brag about is dependent on team and whether you can get everything done in 4 days, otherwise you’re expected to work that 5th day.
-Financial outlook is poor. They waited too long to ship the features customers were asking for 5+ years ago, resulting in loss of market share and a consistently downward trending ARR (posting a loss of 4.39m in ARR since January 2020) more info available on their transparent dashboard.
-Employees fired citing “performance issues” without proper PIP being implemented. Particularly prevalent amongst individuals from under represented groups.
-So many claims to caring about DEI, but only if it allows everyone to maintain their level of toxic positivity.
-Joel is out of touch and lacks the experience, to actually progress the company in a meaningful way or keep this ship from sinking. He either changes his mind, or just doesn’t make a decision at all, preventing teams from having clear direction.
-Leadership (with exception of Product) are only in their roles because they’ve been with the company for the earliest days - not because they have prior experience to qualify them for their titles or experience leading and growing departments, basically the blind leading the blind.
-Beware of asking questions, pushing back on ideas, or asking for accountability.
