Only thing good is the co workers
|
Managers are terrible. Always calling for a meeting before lunch period start to change rules unexpectedly & always changing schedules, but never want to work with you on your availability. They’ll hire you in at one position & have you working everywhere else & you will not get paid for the different stations you work at.
Ex. If you’re hired in as a cashier ( 10.50/hr) they’ll have you working Prep most days, which make a little more, or any other position other than what you were hired in for.
The job isn’t hard at all, it’s actually nice. Co workers make this job so fun, but be careful what you tell people.

I had 15 great years at Butler as part of a wonderful, supportive team of people who genuinely cared about me and about Butler and pulled together to help the university succeed. When I had an idea, I was allowed to try it, and when I succeeded I was recognized. No one watched the clock; everyone is treated like a professional.

Hands down, working with prospective donors and donors has always been the joy of what I do.
Faculty and staff beyond the development team was always helpful. My point is that when doing our jobs to engage donors and prospective donors with the university, faculty and other staff are very collaborative.
The is opportunity to continue learning from programs/webinars/colleagues as well as external sources (Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, CASE, AFP, Charitable Gift Planners of Indianapolis, etc.).
Front-line fundraising staff is evaluated by metrics. The software program was introduced a year+ ago.

Employees are not respected

You will be offered very little possibility for advancement. Management cares very little about middle and lower level employees. New hires are hired as more pay than loyal employees that have been here over a decade. Management care very little for your work/life balance. Despite diversity being a supposed hot button item one only has to look at the primarily white primarily male management to see how little it really matters. Hypocrisy is the Butler Way.

Hardworking environment with little free time.
|
A typical day at work involved getting to the gym 30 minutes earlier than any of the coaches or players in order to set up for practice: this often included walking from my dorm to the gym at 5 am. I learned how to be most efficient with completing all of my tasks in a timely manner and how to complete tasks wanted by the coaches and players before they asked for them to be done. The hardest part of the job was being treated as unimportant to the integrity of the program. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting close to the other managers and the players. Management was often unorganized and hostile, but they wanted things to get done without telling you what needed to be done. I also learned self-advocacy thanks to this program.
