After experiencing health problems eating unhealthy food, I wanted to work in the food business and learned about BBF. The founders gave me a chance and wow!! I learned about the grocery business, and after a couple of years with BBF, landed my dream job as a butcher. The food is pretty amazing - BBF gets new products all the time, often the first to hear about something. The grocery business is tough, hard work - it's not for everyone and it's not glamorous. Like gross vinegars, or chalky and flavorless chocolate with bad marketing too much responsibility, stress, blame, expectations >>>not enough: no investment in employees> sure, you might get a title change or a small raise, but in general their turnover rate is incredibly fast. So bad it makes a mcdonald's look like the supreme court. organization> so badly organized honesly sometimes it takes them 4 emails just to check if their open sign is on at their store. This is not an exaggeration. I still have those emails. belief in the employees> constantly butting into there employees work and slowing us down, then being really snarky when you don't finish your todo list fast enough, or saying you're too 'junior' because you didn't exceed goals while they were bogging you down with micromanagement taking employee feedback into account> this is a tech company, right? actually, not even remotely.... ask for engineering help and you'll be shot down faster than you can send your email. Ask for supplies and they'll order you the cheapo version that breaks after one use. Ask for team support and they say "email these folks we're paying minimum wage in Iowa and ask them to do it" meanwhile screaming at you for not having it done yesterday goodwill> ask to try and teambuild, and they'll expect you to do it all by yourself, then criticize the way you did it PAY> my gosh. lowest pay I've ever received in my life but what did I know going into it that they pinch every penny because they have no funding! professional courtesy> get ready to receive 5-10 emails in the dead of night every day with requests like, "pls do this silly thing that's not even your job" -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 7.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 653512 Open Remember that every time you push away one of your employees with your careless attitude and arrogance, you have just flushed money down the toilet. Get great access to awesome food and really cool food producers I left a while ago after butting heads with the founders regarding their warehousing policies and a huge headache with pests and spoilage. I went back the other day to find that, even after years in operation, they STILL don't have an inventory system. They owners are definitely part of the snobby techie elitists group that is part of the blight our Bay Area is facing. Godawful management Extremely low pay Uncomfortable and inapropriate remarks from CEO all the time, including ones that pit employees against other employees publicly Putdowns and insults constantly from the owners Tense work environment with everyone on edge, overworked, underpaid, stressed, underappreciated Uncomfortable moral choices (namely the owners asking you to do things no other business would do) -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 4.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 653512 Open Before I quit your terrible company there were about 40 ft employees. There were over 100 employees that quit on your "quit list". What do you think that says about your management? If you were people on trial (which you should be) I think your lawyers would probably tell you not to take the stand but you would anyway, and get yourself convicted instantly. The way you talk to people from your own employees to customers and the public is downright shameful. You need a professional PR company to edit emails to your own company or worse alone clients. I have worked for many big companies and NONE of them would practice business the way you do, from the way you handle your stores to HR and payrole... hiring/firing, HYGIENE, legal disputes, warehousing, deliveries, company communication. Its amazing to me that educated people like yourselves never take the advice of experts and constantly make rookie mistakes al the while hi-fiving yourselves as if you have invented sliced bread. What you're doing is selling moldy bread at a huge markup to people, and making your employees miserable while doing it. It makes me sick thinking that there are people still taking abuse from you, whether it's your employees or your customers. For the sake of the people your still paying minimum wage, I hope your business flourishes and they all get some reward for putting up with you.
