This job is something I was not looking for. I was hired here to be a receptionist for a certain department and I was not convinced. I could feel it in my gut that something was off. However, one of the benefits was to have your Bachelors or Masters paid for by the University, so I thought that I could possibly hold onto the job for the next 2 years and then move on. Maybe, if I happen to like it, then I would advance within the company. Well, I started and literally thought my position was a joke. There was so much drama that came with my department. The women were so catty and sucked up to the supervisor tremendously. There was also clear favoritism in this office. It was unfortunate because those who truly worked hard were overlooked and those who were the favorites but didn't do much work were given extra leneage. They often would take longer breaks, and arrive late and dress down constantly. Then people were let go left and right. There had been a rumor that layoffs were huge here, but they had promised us all that that was all done and we were safe. Well, turns out they let go of one person in our department, and then many other layoffs happened after that. Working on the website, I can say that the faculty and staff were supportive and offered constructive criticism. They allowed me to branch out and work on whatever project seemed useful at the time, and they utilized what skills I demonstrated as they could. This is a great place to grow a career, if not a great place to stay! Favoritism is huge here. There is NO job security. They are always making cuts. I didn't learn anything here, there was no challenge. They say that they will pay for your degree but that is ONLY after they accept all of your loans that FAFSA offers you.
