CareFirst.... sad changes
|
Left the company after a long career- best decision ever.
The previous leadership/ culture was so inclusive and innovative- truly caring about what was best for the members.
The new leadership & culture is arrogant and egotistical- not a care in the world about the members.
Message to leadership- you all came to CareFirst because of the reputation of the company, care given to Members and large product offering locally- don't take this for granted.
Also- stay humble. This applies to EVERYONE regardless of your job title and how much you make. It can all be gone in one day- be a good and kind human.

Not an ethical company at all-be wary!!
|
I was with CareFirst for almost 8 years, and finally left because I demanded fair compensation and was refused. I demanded an actual career path, as my title and job description had absolutely NOTHING to do with my job functions and I was refused because no one knew what to do with my skill set; true words from a manager. I had two “lateral” moves during my career; both of these lateral moves involved learning an entirely new skill set which I excelled at, but the review process leaves a large room for management to insert their bias and just not pay you. I absorbed an entire persons’s job function during the reorganization; (that person was moved to another department) and when I asked about compensation for learning this other individuals job duties, I was told I was not trustworthy and did not deserve it. Verbatim, I was told that; I’m not sure what “trustworthiness” has to do with adequate compensation, but Human Resources told me there was nothing they could do, the manager has the final say. Not really sure what “deserving” has to do with being fairly compensated for complex project deployment work completed on time and accurately but hey sure; you’re the boss. I was exempt employee and gladly worked weekends coordinating with our overseas vendor to complete testing, but I never received a bonus; literally after 7 years I was making an entry level salary.
My compensation was so inadequate, I requested a Human Resources compensation evaluation, and after being stalled by my manager for four months, I was told right before the end of the year that “there was no money in the budget.” Not that I did not deserve adequate compensation; just that they could or would not pay me a salary commensurate to my experience, knowledge and skill because it was not in their forecasted budget; please be advised when I first requested the review it was four months earlier and the budget was re-opened because we had just gone through a re-organization; so management had the opportunity to correct my salary and justify it via the budget and just chose not to.
I was paid so poorly, I couldn’t use the benefits provided by the company; couldn’t even afford to see the dentist. I was told I had the ability to work from home whenever I wanted, but I could not afford WIFI on my entry level salary after being employed for 8 years. They clearly do not value their employees at all; everyone is just a drone for them and the turnover has increased dramatically in the last 3 years, I wonder why.
|
Used to have company picnics and fun times, but my understanding is that this was all dispersed under the new CEO
|
Terrible middle management, little to no support for goals, management can have a gross sense of favoritism towards employees, compensation is not adequate for work requested

not a very fair place to work due to leadership
|
i worked there over three years and had three different directors and at times no manager yet we had expectations. Older worker (over 30 years of service) are not open to change and push out newer workers when they can.

Decent for recent college grads
|
Good work/life balance. It's a decent organization to start a career for recent college grads in IT/tech fields. Though executive leadership should work to provide clearer paths to leadership for less tenured staff, direct management works hard to advocate for the team's advancement.

Company has went to down hill. Fast!
|
I worked for this company 13 years and it used to be amazing. Treated well. We had fun and got the work done. Now our old ceo Chet Burrell retired and a new CEO Brian Pieninck started and it’s been awful. He immediately eliminated 100-150 positions just to save the company money and the Vice President of the Cumberland office only cares about herself! Not a good place to work and I would never recommend employment there. They don’t care about their employees.

Not a nice company to work for.
|
They lack in caring for learners and work colleagues. Management are not qualified to teach and very disorganised. Money oriented more than giving a fair honest service. Lack of support for staff.
|
None to report

Lack of care, no support, large workload, confusion with management

Direct Management was excellent
|
My manager and team were great. The work I was doing kept me interested and all of my teamates were both knowledgeable and very helpful.
To let you know this is not a fake review, I will say the negatives.
HR was extremely unhelpful, and for a health insurance company, they are horrible with there own employees health benifits.
|
Team was far beyond par, work was interesting
