Management doesn't like suggestions, even when they asked for it. There is always a person roaming around with target on their back. It's managers job to make the person either quit or fire them. Once the person is gone, they move to the next person. They take pride in hiring new immigrants/new grads, stating that no one else wanted you in the industry so be thankful for the opportunity we are giving you. Pay is low and they promise a 5K jump, which never happens because there is always something wrong with your work or performance. You spend more time in the meeting rooms explaining your work than actually being productive. Even if someone is given the job of being your mentor, manager still needs to sit down with you to go over the same thing mentor did 5 mins ago. CEO is the worst. I have no idea how this company is in business with so much attitude. I wouldn't recommend anyone to work at this place. Young staff Upper management was hostile and irrational. Very young staff who was worked too hard and expected too much of. Undefined rules and guidelines. While rest of the world moves forward with Node, Javascript, Python, GO etc. even PHP and Java is moving on. - Poor documentation, not updated regularly. - Mid level managers don't behave well. Mostly because they are also under pressure. As a result there is no real mentorship. A poorly designed training program is there to make up for it, but it isn't the same. - Very strict conditions on the contract, e.g., every line of code you write during your employment here belongs to the company. - Poor work-life balance. You are expected to work a lot. Managers misbehave if you don't. - There obviously is a red tape culture in practice. Some reviews claiming certain senior people to be easily approachable are obviously fake. It hard getting hold of the junior managers at times. Let alone mid and senior people. - Team spirit is lacking. Salary and benefits are decent. Work is very challenging. - Very high turn over - Long hours, no bonus, no overtime pay, very little vacation. Management always thinks it's a privilege for you to work there. They give you enormous work with inadequate time. - Condescending management, very little room to make mistakes. Be ready to be blamed on any mistakes. What they want is perfect man. If you are not perfect, you gotta be a yes man. Do not ever try to explain. It will make you look worse. - Some had pointed out(100% agree): Majority of the "good" reviews written are fake! If you worked or currently works here, you can tell who wrote the good reviews. Check the reviews yourself, they are either 5 stars(love the company to death) or 1-2 stars(hate the company to death). - Pay attention to the non-compete term you sign. It is fine for one or two years. They make it super long. If you leave, unfortunately you are banned from the industry. - Ever seen 15-20 people working in a 250 sq-ft 2-meter ceiling concentration camp like attic? Yes, that is right! Dirty washrooms, tiny/dirty lunch room, you will find out. It is like a warehouse, not a high tech company. Honestly, If you want to work on and understand the complexity of ad delivery (millions of requests daily) Casale is the place for you. - No red tape, no useless meetings or emails - Open Source stack - Simple management structure, no hiearchy - Since everything is inhouse, you can literally work on any kind of software work you can think of (everything from front end web dev to Big Data to writing to code to handle millions of requests daily) - The MOST important reason, easy access to VP of Engineering (great boss/person), if you have any issue with your job, you can talk to him, no matter what the situation, he will make sure you leave with your mind at ease. In simple terms, working at Casale is like working on college assignements, people rely on you to give your 100%, do a good job, etc but then at the end of a few releases we go out and party hard - drink all you want, eat all you want, and some other good things I dont want to write here :) I was part of the backend team, and yes the standards are high, but that has its reasons. If you come in with even beginner knowledge of how the web works, such as how requests are handled by the web server (HTTP protocol), how cookies work, how to write a CGI programs, and databases, then you will have no problem with the training. First a correction, work-life balance at Casale is like any other company of its size, most people work between 40-45 hours per week, no work from home, or anything like that. I feel a lot of people that are complaining of the work life balance are the people that came in with missing prerequisites, and had to spend extra time to complete their training assignments (I did that in the first month, than I caught up). The only con I can think of is (only relevant to backend): maybe try TDD (test driven development), since the current work-flow tends to put the pressure on the testing team. If you worked or currently works here, you can tell who wrote the good reviews. You're in if you are a "Yes Sir!" type of person so if you can live that culture, you will get promoted, get a decent job title, get a little bump in your pay, and get tons of work load! Read one of the reviews here that talks about hiring new grads and new immigrants - what was said in that review is true! Employee turnover is fast and they think that's because those people are not meant for them. Indeed, because those people who left knows what they want, are competitive, knows there are better companies out there with far better culture, and knows their worth! Vacation days? If they give you a laptop don't forget to bring it and check your phone too! 9-5? No. If you can work an average of 12 hours every day (and at times more than that!) and get your work logged down to the minute, you've found your crib! Benefits are really good. People are very stressed there and they don't even say good morning. Employees don't give much chance to correct their mistakes and grow. They use Perl, you know.
