private:cascadiacapital https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=123102 Jan 6th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Cascadia Capital Investment Banking Junior Banker United States USA Solid People - Constantly Changing Strategy - Many of the senior bankers were genuinely nice and caring - Workload was manageable; weren't forced to stay at the office if your work didn't require it - Michael Butler is a genuinely nice guy - The strategy seemed to constantly shift -- one day the firm would be all in on private capital or pursuing one marketing strategy, and the next all the eggs would be going into a different basket - There was at least 4-5 MD's a year who would produce very little (<$1mm) to literally $0 in revenue; there were a few who did $0 for multiple years. Harsh to say, but the firm would be better off moving on from those who have shown they can't bring in consistent deal flow or get deals closed - Significant amount of turnover in the junior banker ranks, many of whom were solid analysts, often resulting in a downgrade. Cascadia has an awful reputation around town among former employees and clients. They are known for shady dealings and taking advantage of family-owned businesses that lack market savvy. If you're considering working here so that you can put "investment banker" on your resume, it's not worth it. Any respectable firm doesn't recognize Cascadia as a real player, so it's not going to win you any points down the road. If you think you'll pick up an incredible toolkit of knowledge, you will be shocked at how little actual analysis is performed. Cascadia is a sales and marketing-focused brokerage firm searching for quick success fees, regardless if it's an optimal outcome for their clients. If you know how to simply apply a multiple to either revenue or EBITDA, that's all you need here. Another word of warning: there are 2-3 VPs/Directors for every Analyst/Associate. As an Analyst or Associate, you'll get straddled with all the actual work and the top levels will be responsible for drumming up business with family run prospects. At the end of the year, don't plan on a big upside with your bonus--the top levels receive contractual commissions on each deal, and the lower levels receive hardly anything. You'll be promised better outcomes as you progress in the business. Don't believe this! To give you an idea of the pay discrepancy, my next role after Cascadia was $60K more than what I made there.
