Fellow staff make the day to day bearable. I have never seen a more disorganized organization. They have been around for 15 years but still don’t know how to run their engagements. The environment is run based on cliques and if you’re not one of them you have little chance for upward advancement. If you do not participate in every single event you will be singled out and considered to not be a dedicated/loyal employee. The turnover rate is so high for a reason. People have quit after being there for a month. That’s not just a coincidence, people hate their job. If people aren’t leaving they’re looking to leave. Every few months it seems like the entire team is completely different because that’s how often people quit. The office is uncomfortable to work in, no friendly conversation or bonding (which builds better teams). There are favorites within Castro and if you are not on the favorite list, you are not treated as though you are worthy. For a small company, there is not much of a sense of unity. It is all about the money and not about the employees (who are how they make the money). Lots and lots of turnover. Super old school rules that not even the big 4 follow anymore. The industry is all about what the employee wants these days (big 4 is recognizing this) because of how competitive these companies are. Great employees could go anywhere they want to really, and Castro has to start offering other advantages. The big 4 is not how it used to be, there is now a higher focus on millennials. Perhaps request feedback from employees on what they wished the big 4 offered. Right now, the big 4 offers too many benefits for Castro to compete with. However, if they focus on providing different competitive advantages (for ex. work life balance) they could soar. Additionally, the expectation of loyalty from employees who have advantages at other companies that might better suit their career paths is unreasonable and selfish. Great place to launch a career or grow one! I don't know what these other staff personnel are talking about, the owner is a kind, caring individual, and my guess is that these people were lazy, it was their first job out of college and they didn't expect to actually have to "work." That's why all the negative reviews come from "staff" and not someone who has actually made it in the industry. I have worked at "big four" companies before, and you won't get better treatment and better benefits anywhere else. If you are looking for a place to gain experience for your CPA, believe the Managing Partner runs a "perfect" company, and you are only focused on your career and not having a work/life balance, then this is the place for you.
