Chaos and Inconsistency
|
|
Pay and benefits are good. The ability to learn new tech is available and encouraged. Several awesome employees. Cool office space.
|
Poor communication. Lack of direction. Constantly changing vision and chasing new things. An inability to see anything through. Very frustrating. Would speak up, but too scared. Misogyny. Veiled racism. Bias. Nepotism. People get fired for speaking up. Fear resulting in a yes man culture. Emphasis on man culture.

The worst experience in my professional career.
|
|
There really aren't any in the long run. I used to think there were some but now understand that all the pros are just veiled cons.
|
I can't begin to list them. Read all the 1 star reviews... they are all true. All of the 5 star reviews are staged by management, friends, family, and/or new hires that don't know any better yet.
Dan Charbanaeu (CEO) is not an honorable man, plain and simple. If you make a deal with a dishonorable man you get what you deserve. That is a lesson that took me years after being employed there to fully learn. There is no verbal or written agreement that Dan is not willing to violate for his own ego.

Nothing Lasts For Long, Expect the Unexpected
|
|
Company has traditionally hired hard-working common and dedicated, team oriented individuals from middle management on down through the ranks that by-and-large have been a pleasure to work with, in my experiences.
CBT Nuggets offers very good insurance coverage with low premiums.
|
High turnover
Lack of empathy from upper management
No published pay structure
No cost of living or merit increases - Employees must request raises through supervisor to be approved by CEO
Lack of overall direction
Siloed workgroups
Extremely high recruiting and hiring standards lead to lengthy vacancies and ultimately larger workloads for team members

Worth Exploring
|
|
- Great benefits and PTO
- Brilliant, compassionate coworkers
- You get to play a part in building a product that has a broad, positive impact.
- Good work/life balance and positive culture among coworkers
|
- Personally, for a 20 y.o. company I expected a more stable work environment with clearly defined goals. This may just be a symptom of a company that strives to innovate but projects change rapidly with little notice.
- Compensation is below industry standard for this role in the area

Don’t work here!!!!!!!!!!!! Please don’t!!!!!!!!!
|
|
Chinese made swag. Fear culture. Lies and tons of snacks!!!
|
All the negative reviews are true. The positive ones are fake posts from the brass. The owner and his right hand man seem like criminals and BEHAVE LIKE THEM!!! Ever wanted to work for King Joffrey? Here’s your chance! Don’t work here. If you currently do, plan your escape. Take care of yourself and stop supporting this disgusting front of a company. Hey Dan and Ryan, you suck!

Company motto: Be honest direct and real.
My experience is this company motto only works one way. You be honest with your managers. Management will not extend you the same courtesy and tell you what issues you may have in terms of optics with upper brass. It's a popularity based reward culture.
The staff knows "today is your last day at CBT" is also one of the companies mottoes. You should correct that and show some loyalty to your awesome staff.

Don't do it. It's a dead end.
|
|
- Being friends with the right persons will be vital to protect your job. If you have the consistency of Jell-O and you’re a suck-up, you’ll do great.
- The most talented engineers leave the company after a year or two. They know better.
- You’ll be promoted to middle management in no time if what you say and what you do does not match. Congratulations, but you’re still a bad manager.
- I hope you like people auto-congratulating themselves. You’ll get a lot of that. At least every other week.
|
- Upper management repeatedly changes direction and wastes huge amounts of money on projects that get ditched shortly after their start. Despite the fact that the company is not profitable, management does not seem to have connected the dots. They choose instead to let people go overnight shortly after hiring en masse and change the health plan for an inferior one without telling anybody.
- Middle management has unconditional power on the teams they manage. Forget about 360-degree employee reviews. Your manager is the only one who decides your fate.
- This company solves problems with a fresh coat of paint and PR. Don’t be fooled.

- Resign.
- Stop bullying entry-level employees by constantly low-balling your offer while negotiating compensations.
- Stop trying to spin a positive light on everything. If you were confident in your own company, you would not make people sign non-disparagement agreements when you let them go.
- Yeah, all the perks are great, sure. However, unlike employee compensations, perks and benefits happen to be tax-deductible. Isn’t it great all the money you’re saving this way? How about better salaries instead of stocking an ungodly amount of 5-hour energy bottles in the kitchen?
- Talking about taxes, why is “CBT NUGGETS, LLC” registered in Delaware when the headquarters and about 90% of the employees are in Eugene, Oregon? I hope it has nothing to do with the fact that Delaware is a tax haven. Like everything else that is true about this company, that would look bad.
- Stop letting people go without notice.
- Stop trying to enhance your terrible reputation by posting a bunch of positive reviews on Glassdoor all of a sudden. It’s cute but your employees are scared shitless with all the people you’ve let go in the last months. Take your responsibilities instead and put your money where your mouth is.

Looking back honestly, the personal problems I was suffering from ultimately led to my demise as they negatively impacted so many aspects of my job execution and peer interactions. CBT Nuggets certainly tried to help me at every turn. I do not believe it needed to be so harsh at the end, but then again, I am only really able to see how that went down through my perspective. Clearly, it was perceived in management that such harsh treatment was warranted.

Fantastic company to work for
|
|
Amazing benefits, learning culture, autonomy, developer driven timelines, good coding practices (like testing), aggressive movement forward with technology, empathetic management - I honestly cannot understand some of these reviews, but I will say that low performers do get cut (a pro, imo)

I have not found any. Honestly.
