Exciting place to work, salaries are way too low
- Lots of smart dedicated people
- Great connections to government work
- Interesting and exciting substantive work
- Salary, even for people with graduate degrees, is ridiculously low

Lots of interesting people to work with and learn from; HR and exec has improved office environment over time; some really great managers; creates a great network for after the job
Expectations do not add up to compensation; lots of poor managers, and no emphasis or benefit to managerial staff to be good managers;

Descent place to work.
Very progressive atmosphere. There is much room for improvement within the systems, so never bored as far as projects to work on. Centrally located by Metro Center and the white house.
Too many staffers in the building so staff avoid interactions as much as possible. WFH options reduced gradually at random. Organizaton has a 9am - 6pm workdays.

Great ideas, needs some help with HR
Great new ideas always around, passionate expert colleagues, feel like my work makes a difference in my policy area, unionized for most positions!
Needs a functioning HR department and to stop pretending its a "new startup" non-profit

Terrible. Absolutely terrible.
It's taken me some time to write this review, as I've needed time to process my experience, heal from it and be able to express the scar this place left. There was no formal training, being left to my own devices after just a week. It was clear that management seemed to put personal bias before professionalism, which made it very difficult to communicate. When assignments were turned in, it was returned with a sharp " ALL OF IT IS WRONG!" Without the chance to explain where mistakes were made or how to improve them. Being belittled, demeaned and discouraged were a daily occurrence, walking on eggshells constantly. Granted, leaving this place only served to reveal what was truly in store for my career, as it seemed to have blossomed immediately after my exit, but I must say...if you are considering working here, be mindful of everything.

Colleagues that were helpful, encouraging and kind.

Try to remember that people make mistakes, but it should never cost them their quality of life. If you say you have an open door policy, actually honor it. Put personal feelings aside, be respectful and courteous. When someone asks for clarification, be willing to clarify so they can succeed. These are basic human decencies after all.
