Fresh produce, meat, seafood and wide variety other items at local markets
Cuenca is good central location for travel within Ecuador

Stipend (wages) for volunteers inadequate to cover living expenses
Grammar centric approach, mandatory midterm and final written exams, even for conversation courses
Teachers are scolded if they don't meet student expectations, particularly for grammar comprehension because this a money driven enterprise. Teachers are considered volunteers, so receive stipend intended to cover living expenses. To live comfortably, expect to spend $750-1000 month or use the food bank.

The school only cares about the money. The rules there are inconsistent. It's all about what the students want. Teachers are either recycled or they quit after 10 weeks or the second semester.
