CPTC is a state agency. You will get all the benefits of a state employee (sick leave, vacation leave, bereavement leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, optional disability plans, etc.) You'll have stable work hours and very rarely (most employees) will you ever have to work on weekends or past 5pm (mostly for annual events or special things you can volunteer for). If you are a union employee, you'll have additional benefits as part of your union's collective bargaining agreement.
Tons of opportunity for professional development and additional training (paid for as part of benefits). You are even entitled to take one class for free a quarter at any state college/university as a benefit. So this is a great way to build on career progression.
The campus and most buildings are aesthetically pleasing, and you will also be able to access services (oil changes, haircuts, massages, etc.) offered by the various schools.
Most people here are super nice. It's a good place to work where people are pleasant, and generally, care about what they do/we do as a college.

Select individuals who have a bad attitude, some faculty who don't care about diversity/equity, and a history of college presidents/leadership that aren't very well liked. Although, current president is kind and strives for input.

Tenure isn't meaningful...anyone can be RIF'ed. If enrollment dips, instructors are blamed and let go.

Very dedicated support staff and faculty; though admin is often out of touch. programs are modeled after old-style apprenticeships with personal attention for each student. Great on-campus services and well maintained campus. Lots of funding devoted to beautiful buildings/facilities; although not much for employee salaries and updated equipment. Some tuition reimbursement is offered.

Too little money devoted to updated technology and inadequate tech support campus wide. Faculty work load is incredibly high. Academics are very limited. Certain people are favored w higher pay and opportunities, while others are pigeonholed. Very behind with technology; resistant to online offerings and new educational models. Much of curriculum hasn't changed in many years...Enrollment numbers drive everything. Keeping students in seats is valued over quality and excellence. weak Faculty union.

Move into the 21st century. Require teaching experience and a masters degree for faculty in addition to industry experience. It matters! Pay for great staff first...great buildings and landscaping second. Honor faculty contracts for step increases. Raising the bar on quality will help raise enrollment numbers.

Most of the support staff and instructors are very easy to work with. Because it is a state job, the benefit package is excellent.
|
Administration is top heavy. Rather that getting rid of their "dead weight", they hold onto them. This includes some of the instructors who have tenure yet continue to teach out dated material. Do not accept a job at CPTC if you have a mind of your own and feel that you can add or suggest ideas to help things run smoother.
