Gotten way worse real quick

Good relationships with colleagues and students.

COVID-related cost cuts have devastated the school at all levels and now the majority of the people responsible for the positive elements in the school are no longer there, like most of the professors who trained the top alumni from the college.
In the last 6-12 months the best administrators who had big connections and amazing resumes were laid off, or they abandoned ship. Huge proportion of the best FT and PT faculty got laid off due to cost cutting, retired, or left for different jobs. Significant experienced staff members have left or were let go.
COVID is surely the core cause, but those people are not coming back and the institution is much worse off if you are a student or work there.

Flexible hours, some tutees were pleasant to work with and it was nice to be able to help them.
|
Often had to teach students with developmental/learning disabilities, didnt feel qualified. Often had to do extra work outside of hours to be able to help students better. Students often flaked or were not interested in doing any work.

Master's Degree and Professional Experience hiring at $28/hr

70 hrs per class/semester on paper, but no extra compensation for grading and class preparation. If you have never taught before, understand that those things take the same number of hours as teaching does (or more!)
At $4000/class/semester this means you are making $28/hr at best, probably less.
There are never full-time positions. Those who are full-time say the pay is bad and benefits are bare bones. Give up on that dream immediately if you think that will ever happen.
Anyone skilled and employable in tech or entertainment in The Bay makes twice that with only a Bachelor's. If a student ever wonders about their teacher quality --- that's why!
This job is for the charitable/codependents and the temporarily unemployed only. Teach somewhere else if you want to "give back"/try to pay back your own student loans.
