The company mission is noble, but poorly executed. There is extremely high turnover and the reasons for it, along with received feedback are ignored. At the time of writing this, there are over a dozen open positions on the internal job board for the Medford area. Instead of making an effort to create a healthy environment and appreciate employees, their main focus is opening as many facilities as possible, and becoming slum lords of healthcare in Oregon. The leadership is toxic, and there is not much faith in the ineffective human resources department. private:columbiacareservices https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=630166 Aug 9th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Columbia Care Services QMHA Medford, OR Doing the Right Thing ColumbiaCare Services was founded on a few simple principles that guide the organization as it provides services for clients. One of the sayings I heard over the years, that resonated with me the most, was from the late Executive Director Bob Becket. He often said, “when in doubt, do the right thing”. In my almost three years at ColumbiaCare, I have held two positions in two separate programs and I cannot think of a single instance in which the leadership or staff failed to follow Bob’s guidance. I have worked through countless tough situations with clients and have always seen the staff and leadership put the need of the client above everything else. As a front-line staff member, I have been given incredible support by the leadership. I have never felt like I couldn’t come to my supervisor with concerns. The few times I did need to voice a concern, I was shown genuineness and felt validated while we worked through the issue together. I have felt empowered and respected by leadership when given the freedom to case manage the way that works for me and my clients without micro-managing. One of the most unique elements of ColumbiaCare is the staff’s desire to see our clients get better, no matter what their job is. Outside of direct client care, our maintenance staff is passionate about maintenance because they know that the work they do improves the people’s lives in our programs. Our IT staff work quickly and effectively knowing that each moment a system is down can have a negative impact on the services we provide. Seeing everyone’s passion to help our clients from the clinical staff to the nonclinical is remarkable. ColumbiaCare started as a job for me but has developed into being part of my family and who I am. I would recommend ColumbiaCare to anyone that desires purpose in employment and the opportunity to grow personally and professionally. As mentioned by other reviewers, the higher-level managers/administrators wear many hats, and have required travel, and that can cause some delays in communication. As someone that works best with little to no supervision, I prefer the management style that trusts my experience and education to help my clients free from micro-managing, but I could see it being an issue in other programs where staff may need a little more support. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 630166 Open 0.0 [{"countHelpful": 0, "languageId": "eng", "userJobTitle": "Administrative Assistant", "__typename": "EmployerResponse", "originalLanguageId": null, "id": 2444361, "responseDateTime": "2019-12-11T12:17:36.433", "translationMethod": null, "response": "Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. They have amazing benefits, are very accommodating to "life" situations, and very eager to promote within. What they do for the community is incredible and even though you may not work directly with the clients, it's still a very rewarding job. There medical benefits are incredible and super low cost; they have a Wellness Benefit that will reimburse you up to $400 a year towards wellness items like fitness classes, camping equipment, spa treatments...anything that helps with your whole health wellness. They also offer a lot of training regardless of your position, so you gain a lot of mental health knowledge. Management wears a lot of hats and is usually extremely busy, so it can be difficult to get assignments finished up in a timely manner because they are out of the office, or tied up doing other things, which can put a lot of stress back on the individuals assisting them; but I understand. private:columbiacareservices https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=630166 May 20th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Columbia Care Services Residential Associate Portland, OR A stepping stone at best -A hefty wellness reimbursement to use for things such as massages, dance classes, a bike. -Co workers -Supportive Housing: this was a work environment that fostered creativity, collaboration, and allowed for the acquisition of numerous transferable skills. Most people developed great advocacy having to do a moderate amount of case management and care coordination. Your interactions with other professionals and your team was valued and I never felt communication was lacking. I was fortunate enough to have good management. I felt there was a lot of opportunity for growth and the performance feedback was invaluable. The work was important and necessary to help clients remain in the community. There was frequent exposure to crisis situations, which further led to developing creative problem solving skills. The depth and amount of crisis remains unparalleled in other programs. There was a real sense of community that remains lacking in residential programs. It's unfortunate that all but one program lost funding. -Demoralizing management. Communication to a certain group of staff/shifts became virtually non existant. Staff morale has dropped amongst the majority and there exists palpable tension. This site is known by on calls to have the worst staff-management morale in the metro area. Effective leaders support, encourage, and collaborate with their staff. This doesn't occur outside of short, sometimes bitter email exchanges. Communication about client changes/updates was lacking. There was no real direction or support to those that didn't have direct access to management and if things weren't done correctly, you'd receive no feedback on how you could have handled a situation differently, just a disapproving tone. Staff aren't learning or growing. It's a stagnant environment fueled by fear of reprimand and a great many staff don't feel supported or valued. There are great programs in the company that operate as a cohesive unit, where management works well with all shifts, but this hasn't been one of them for quite some time. 1.0 POSITIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 5.0 4.0 3.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 4.0 630166 Open Address inconsistencies between shifts by holding meetings and make an effort to collaborate. Citing core competencies is vague and doesn't lend well to making effective change. Blasting an entire group of staff by alleging that they are not fulfilling "job description responsibilities" really sealed the fate for most. Spend more time getting to know staff areas of weaknesses (and areas of mastery) and supportively address them individually, not to an entire group. Refer to your managment training/supervision/therapist if you need support. 0.0 [{"countHelpful": 0, "languageId": "eng", "userJobTitle": "Administrative Assistant", "__typename": "EmployerResponse", "originalLanguageId": null, "id": 2444387, "responseDateTime": "2019-12-11T12:26:40.803", "translationMethod": null, "response": "Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Grinding educational training, but good training, somewhat relevant. Staff are qualified, skilled in many areas and are willing to share their experiences if management would remove their own boots from staff-necks. If you have further education and/or experience than an assistant admin, they are threatened, and you are the enemy. Any promises of further success at hiring by the admin, is quickly diminished. Ask a question and you’re gone. Assistants make small change of those they perceive as a possible replacement. Not the highest, but also not the lowest in the area. Easy to pick up hours as on-call staff, with the potential to quickly transition to part-time or full-time. Awarded training and retention bonuses when applicable. Middle management is pretty hit or miss. Under short-lived good management, my facility had a hardworking, committed team of mental health professionals. The program itself was far from flawless, but it had great potential as it worked to find its footing in the community. Employee feedback was valued and encouraged, and good work ethic was acknowledged and rewarded. After a regime change, everything fell apart. The main office in Medford refused to acknowledge the consistent failures and inadequacies of their new program directors, who were driving away long-term employees. Policies were enforced selectively, and employees were routinely degraded and devalued, then encouraged to leave when they voiced their concerns. Management demanded unreasonable and unsafe work conditions. Employees were reprimanded for not taking on last-minute 12+ hour shifts. There were several instances of client-on-staff violence, which was belittled or was entirely ignored by management. Management was exceptionally accommodating to employees with poor job performance depending on their level of favor with their supervisors.
