I Found Nirvana at Work

Management values and invests in it's people. They encourage learning and evolving not only in the industry but outside of it too. Great perks like wine Friday's, company lunches and educational outings, and of course beer with parlor games. It's a chill environment but with professionals that work hard and are passionate about the client and the product.

This is the most supportive environment I've ever worked in terms of mental and physical health. Our people are talented, good communicators and, most importantly, they trust eachother. Straightforward feedback makes our company retrospectives productive. Everyone is constantly trying to get better at their craft and how we work together as a team. The pace is fast.

I know the title may sound a bit dramatic, but some jobs are so full of corporate politics that you have to be someone else to get by, and are genuinely bad for your state of mind. Commerce Kitchen is the polar opposite of that.
You can be yourself and focus on working. Helping your co-workers is rewarded and reciprocated, without any perverse incentives to not help, and work-life balance is not just lip service - it's actually striven for and achieved. A professional development budget also shows the value placed on employees. One other point: the CEO Tynan has, in the past, written a bit of software, and it shows: he really groks how software works.

If you actually like super-formal structures, you may have a hard time fitting in. If you enjoy extremely overplanned waterfall software development, you're gonna have a bad time. Also, very minor, but sometimes people get a bit confused about the name "Commerce Kitchen" and need an explanation about cooking up some custom software.

There is a great amount of flexibility in both working environment and the type of projects that are available. We have both the ability and the necessity to take initiative and to take on challenges.

It can be stressful at times, especially as a project deadline approaches. It can also be hard to get away from work, we tend to blur the two.

Incredibly empowering. Commerce Kitchen takes its culture and values very seriously, and it shows! For instance, each employee is given an expense account specifically for the purpose of personal and professional growth through buying books, gaining certifications, and/or attending conferences. There is also a wellness program, a stocked kitchen, and routine one-on-one meetings with the CEO.

The company is intentionally structured flat, which can be challenging for employees who need more hand-holding. Also, Commerce Kitchen is pretty small, which can lead employees to scope creep within their roles. This is not necessarily a con, but I certainly know people that wouldn't jive well in this environment.

This is the best job I've ever had. The people who work here are some the best and brightest in their fields. They're not just my coworkers - they're my friends too, and I feel fully supported by each and every one of them. We have amazing benefits that are outside of the norm of what most people consider work perks, like movie nights, off-site field trips to learn about something new and different, opportunities to give back to the community via volunteer days, and more.
