Performance audit is not for everyone.
Have recently moved to “activity-based working” (aka hot-desking).
Much less training was offered during the Graduate Program than what was originally advertised/promised. Training on offer to permanent staff members is also somewhat limited.
Culture can vary significantly across teams.
Analysis of evidence can be repetitive and tedious (think routinely scanning through years worth of monthly board meeting minutes).
High turnover across organisation, which executive team have explicitly refused to address.
Under resourcing of most teams (largely stemming from turnover but also from budget cuts) - expect to perform the duties of a higher classification without recognition or pay if you are in an under resourced team.
Limitations in Auditor-General’s mandate mean that our scope can be somewhat narrow/limited.
Limited career progression.

- Good hours (for audit). Standard weeks with paid OT and flextime in busy periods.
- Very flat hierarchy. Senior managers are approachable and engaged.
- Significantly more responsibility and exposure at junior levels than comparable APS jobs.
- Competitive salary, superannuation and non-salary benefits.
- Your skillset will be in high demand in the public sector.

- Skills acquired at junior levels are transferable to private, however more complex areas are specific to government and you'll gain limited exposure to areas that are key in private practice.
- Senior managers in assurance audit do not drive change in the business.
- Unsatisfactory performance management of under-performing staff and inadequate resourcing.

The ANAO has a very good reputation in Australia, it audits many big clients and is a good work place for gaining great experience.
|
The ANAO is very very slow to promote people and this is very annoying. I would recommend to come here later in your career as you should not be here when young (best time to be promoted)

Great learning experience.
|

The office is modern and located in leafy Barton. Great work-life balance with good exposure to different Federal government departments providing excellent networking opportunities. Ample off street parking but one must e at the office before 8.00 to secure a spot.
|
Team culture does vary between teams primarily due to the extent of leadership quality. Some office politics is present that can inhibit ones progression, so best to avoid this altogether.
