private:connectivity https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=980134 Jun 21st, 2015 12:00AM Open Open Connectivity Software Developer United States USA A Software Developer's Opinion Unlimited vacation, free lunches, 401k, somewhat flexible software development schedule (this depends - see below). Some smart people work in software here. If you work here, definitely try and take this to your advantage. You could learn a lot if you're willing. Working here has been a roller coaster. It’s a startup, so you definitely have to fend for yourself. You also have to keep proactive, as communication between management and developers has always been poor. An example of the poor communication, as expressed in other reviews, would be the irresponsible deadlines. At least with the developers, management will send private emails to team leaders expressing that if the team does not meet the deadline, the team leader will be held personally accountable. However, the deadlines originate from ballpark estimates which only appeal to the product team. Unfortunately, the team leaders do not push back enough, which give the developers too much work. Requirements are never refined, and we’ve now failed at so many deadlines that we’re currently just cleaning up bad code. And product will never admit when they’ve changed the requirements - they tell the developers we simply designed the software wrong. The new unlimited vacation policy is definitely a plus (listed above). However, management has recently encouraged the developers to spend less time working from home. This is ironic, because the open-floor offices are *horrible* environments for software development. Personally, I get more work done from home as it is quiet and free from distractions. Attempting to drown out office noise with headphones should not be a solution. Training and events seem to be discouraged - i.e. don’t expect to be sent to open source events on the company’s dime. This is unfortunate, because many developers have expressed interest in attending more software events. Sales is out of control. What are we actually selling? The product is not even close to being done. The biggest piece of the product doesn’t even scale yet - it’s just made for demos. Basically, we’re selling non-working software. HR will most likely reply to this review claiming I am crazy, but if you talk to anyone writing the software, they should agree. Also, I would also like to share the sentiment of one other review written here. That is, many of the reviews written here do sound fake. If you are considering to work for a new company, do you really pay attention to the 5 star reviews with no true cons listed? Does a company like that really exist? Do those reviews written sound honest to you? The real reviews are near the bottom, with 3 or less stars - most likely written by developers *making* the product. Again, I’m sure HR will refute this claim, but I would encourage HR to be more involved with the developers to know what is going on - not just what management is reporting. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 11.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 980134 Open Get rid of open floor offices. Focus on software quality. Finish the software before we start selling it. Regular progress reviews and bonuses *really* need to happen (not just for your favorite developers). Scapegoating certain developers when software fails should never happen. 1.0 [{"countHelpful": 0, "languageId": "eng", "userJobTitle": "Sr. Director, Human Resources", "__typename": "EmployerResponse", "originalLanguageId": null, "id": 663745, "responseDateTime": "2015-06-25T11:04:31.24", "translationMethod": null, "response": "Thank you for taking the time to write a review. \r\n\r\nYou're right, HR will reply ... but I don't think you're crazy. Every employee who writes a review has a different opinion about working here, which is why there are some positive and some negative reviews. Everybody wants something different from a Company, and although we try our best, unfortunately it is impossible to make everybody happy.\r\n\r\nI am always available to talk with any employee about their time here. I recently held 'HR Hangouts' and coordinated an employee survey to gather feedback too, so there are plenty of opportunities for sharing concerns and viewpoints. private:connectivity https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=980134 May 3rd, 2015 12:00AM Open Open Connectivity United States USA Smart People, Great Perks, High Growth The people are talented and friendly. My leader is very supportive and open to my ideas and suggestions. Cool office decor, free lunches (daily), unlimited snacks/soda/coffee, happy hours, gym membership, paid time off. Healthcare benefits are offered and the company pays for the monthly costs of my plans, which is helpful. We are almost out of space and parking due to growth, we need to expand the office space. Also, so many people have joined the company over the last few months that it seems there is a loss of identity and less of a small company feel. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 2.0 4.0 4.0 3.0 4.0 4.0 5.0 980134 Open Keep showing appreciation for hard work and good performance.
