The founder - Jonathan, is an unethical, cruel human who emotionally abuses his employees by yelling at them when things have not gone his way. He will stand behind you asking you to make changes, again and again, changing his mind back and forth and then blame you for not meeting deadlines in the end. He has also not paid numerous contractors who have worked for him and just ignores their invoices and calls to chase. I've never yelled at any member of staff in front of anyone. I've had heated words over the phone with my most senior staff on two or three occasions, but no yelling, and never when anyone could directly overhear. Most of my team have been with me for 5 years, and we have pretty low churn for a London media/tech business (5-10% a year) which suggests I'm okay to work with - this seems to be a pretty extreme take. \r\n\r\nPerhaps by 'yelling' you mean that frustration or impatience might creep into my voice when I feel like work's not up to standard or people aren't thinking or are being sloppy (something that I do do). I know it can be tough to be asked to make repeated changes to design work or copy, but it's a natural part of the creative process. Our best designers and marketers spend hours iterating before they put materials in front of me. They're also then usually happy to workshop at their desks (a.k.a. 'standing behind them asking them to make changes, again and again') and the results are usually significantly better once all the possibilities have been explored. Some bigger consultancies have waited longer than independent contractors have for payment, but only by agreement. We're always communicative - I try not to ignore invoices or chasers. If I do it's not evasiveness, just limited bandwidth. \r\n\r\nI don't generally boast about long hours although sometimes putting in a marathon stretch, and meeting a tough challenge by doing so, is worth talking about and acknowledging as an achievement. There are a lot of scathing reviews from last year, but I think most people would say a lot of those people were actually listened to. Personally, I like my job (engineering) * I like to work somewhere where I get to do/learn different things * The people here are really cool and very talented * It's not boring technology * I get to be involved in the product discussions * I get ownership of my work * I don't work unsociable hours - actually to be fair, there's the occasional 'big project', but only in the normal way you get in tech jobs. * The office is next to Oxford street in London (that's good for me at least, because of the travel links) * It's not always clear what you're going to be working on from one month to the next * There are always lots of new things being built - which is both a good or a bad thing. I've decided to create this review now as I'm suspicious of the positive reviews. The London office is in a great location. The employees who were not on the board were able to function as both office workers and adults. I left as one time I wasn't paid. I wasn't told I wasn't getting paid and at first it wasn't unusual as nearly every month there were people who get their wages late. When I finally asked management about this payment, I was told that even though I had been given a good performance review recently, there were somethings they were not happy about so I wouldn't get paid. I wasn't told what these things were. The weird thing is, this was not a dysfunctional way of firing me, they really expected us to put this behind us and carry on as if nothing had happened. I can confirm the complaints from the other one star reviews, apart from the racism which may have been happening but I didn't see it. The micro-management was extreme, once I came in on a weekend to lay cables in the office. I had a phone in one hand and tools in the other so the CEO could make decisions on individual nails from his home. There were constant complaints about cash flow but the money being spent on salaries was being wasted by low productivity. Productivity was low as the board made really bad decisions on both a large scale and micro-management. It's worth saying again, all of the bad aspects of working at Constant Commerce sit on the board. Some of them are nice people, but they don't have the ability to run a company. The level of dysfunctional behavior was staggering. Here's quick list of things I personally observed the board do which they should not be doing: Criticizing staff and demanding changes in their contract in a public place with no warning. That's not a typo' once the passwords and keys had been changed, the /index. html deleted and an explanation of why having our passwords in a search engine was bad - the page went back up with the updated details. Taking expensive equipment that belongs to staff or the friends of staff then refusing to give it back. Sending threatening and abusive messages to staff. After being told by other board members to stop harassing staff, having family members sending threatening and abusive messages. In public, telling a member of staff to not complain about a months missing wage payments. Starting renovating a room, including removing the floor, plug sockets and lighting leaving live exposed electrical wires everywhere. Giving-up renovation so putting staff into the room with exposed electrical live wires and an inappropriate floor. Replacing a database with millions of text files, before going on Christmas holiday. Raging quiting a Christmas conference call which was trying to fix the server full of tiny text files as the engineers wouldn't agree that millions of text files were better that a database. Dropping columns from the live production database, repeatedly. Running cat5 cables across the stairs. Paying for staff then having them do a reduced workload for a year as the Board can't get on with any Internet provider. Opening a sealed cupboard the building owner had banned the company from using; it contained loose white asbestos. Using that cupboard for storage.
