They reel you in with free snacks, lunches and happy hours (pre COVID) and then excuse the poor compensation and required demanding hours for these “perks”. Workplace harassment and HR complaints are a many with little to no reproductions, unless you are the complainant. It is a popularity contest with bullies that receive absurd advancements and praise. At the start of COVID, employees were promised by the CEO that no layoffs would occur and half of the company was laid off via a Hangout Meeting. The poor employees that were spared were required to pick up the slack and manage twice the accounts and customers with no additional compensation. Sub-standard pay and horrible company culture that doesn't value employees at all. Low Loyalty to Their Employees/Don't Live Their Values Great team culture, lots of inner & cross team collaboration, low political drama at the CSM level, Lots of opportunity to get involved, contribute and make an actual impact on the company and products, challenging/interesting/engaging work, career advancement opportunities, startup atmosphere in a company nearing the end of it's 'startup' phase. Flexible schedule, wfh flexibility even pre-Covid, Take What You Need Vaca Time, plus defined paid holidays, very little micromanagement on most CS teams, okay pay, great benefits. Overall, great company to work for. Due to the nature of the SaaS industry and being a startup company with an innovative and ever evolving platform, things change often and fast. That applies to the technologies, as well as the office policies, expectations and leadership. That come with growing pains that can make the company not an ideal fit for all. Fast Paced & Often changing expectations and direction can be a hard environment for some to keep up with and be successful in. Work Life balance decreases as you climb the ladder, but I expect this is true in most companies and a balance each individual needs to learn to manage themselves. I will say the company advocates pursuing a balance, however, the work needs to get done and them saying 'take care of yourself' doesn't change the pressure, time crunch, and lack of staff and resources to meet deadlines within the contraints of office hours. In addition, the current CEO's decision to lay off half of the company earlier this year using the convenience of Covid to justify the move was disappointing. The company seems to have leaped from the small company stage phase where everyone counts and is appreciated for their hard work, to a more cut throat corporate policy of making money over all other costs to grow the company to the next stage. I'm no longer working there so I can't say for sure what the internal culture is now, but that's the impression I get which is disappointing, especially to those of us who put in so many years into the company and literally created, built up and innovated the foundation for the success and trajectory the company is now enjoying. Catered lunches, quality and quantity depend on location Unlimited PTO (if it works for the team schedule) 10% salary bonus dependent on company hitting goals (more or less bonus) Good office Quality of Life, access to snacks and cold beverages at all times Salary left a lot to be desired, but that's why the Bellingham location is there. Able to draw in fresh graduates with the promise of a full-time salaried job. HR was not favorable. Made me jump through paperwork loopholes to save them a few bucks in the end. Hiring others took forever, often time pushing several weeks. Many candidates lost interest because of how long the hiring process took. Outside of hiring, Bellingham HR representative was kind but did not build confidence that any issues you reported were being worked on at all. Not all management, but enough of management was networked in a high-school fashion, allowing drama and gossip to interfere with work place activities and professional relationships. CEO played the "laid back surfer dude" character to sit well with everyone, before downsizing the company by laying off 100ish people on APRIL 1st, of all days. Used COVID-19 as a scapegoat and citing costs, whereas the salaries of those laid off did not correlate with that reason. Lots of new players at all levels are making things happen. The investors were wise in the recent changes and have put together a solid team and you can see the changes already. Many tough decisions, but the right decisions that will pay off. Resources are sometime tight, but that's getting better. The company is transitioning from an SMB organization to a proper mid-market/enterprise organization and that stresses the engine, but in a good way. I was to good at my job. Generous benefits, unlimited PTO, teamwork culture, and great pay. Also free lunch ever week on Wednesday and free Breakfast on Fridays. The company is a "boys club" kind of company. There was only 1 girl on the sales team with about 15-16 sales men. She was getting pushed out. The company is poorly managed. Mostly salaried positions with great healthcare and decent matching on 401k. Catered lunches 3x a week, and weekly happy hours made it a very enjoyable place to work and the culture was amazing. It really was the best job I'd ever had and I was a huge advocate until a few months ago. Hopefully they can turn it back around. The pay. Compared to similar positions at other tech companies, we make about 40% less than the industry average. (No joke, I'd make more money working at Wal-Mart) Training is informal and leaves a lot to be desired. Product is slowly becoming out of date, and competitors are creeping in. Then we got this new CEO that laid off over half of all employees - on April Fool's Day, of all days - and expected us to pick up the slack without any additional compensation. Then they cancelled the bonuses. I get it, Coronavirus had a negative impact on most businesses. But my suspicion is that they used COVID as an excuse to downsize the company, especially because they bragged about "achieving profitability" a month later. They claim to care about their employees and swear we are the heart and soul of this company, but their actions at the executive level prove otherwise. I love this company so much and really hope they can turn it around.
