This could be either a Pro or a Con depending on what kind of person you are. If you don’t mind being given little guidance and instead googling things to pick them up as you go, you will excel at Convertize. If you expect a lot of in-depth training, you will probably find it too much pressure. - Given the opportunity to work on a whole range of different things. If you show you can pick things up quickly, you will be given new responsibilities. I became heavily involved in high-level discussions after just a few weeks, which surprised me. - Very young office - lots of interns who are still at university, and most of the permanent employees are in their 20s. Met some great people and had many memorable nights at the local pub, and made friends who I still see after leaving Convertize. - International vibe - the CEO is French and so are a lot of the employees, and I have worked with people from Italy, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Spain… the list goes on. I really enjoyed this aspect! - They are proactive about personal development. There are lots of books on business, psychology and marketing you are expected to read, and managers take time to explain their thinking and teach you things. - As mentioned in the Pros section, being given a lot of responsibility can be a negative. There were times when I became quite stressed by the range of tasks. - Quite a high turnover of employees (as many are on short internships). Can be sad to see people leave, but on the flipside this means you get to meet lots of new people. - As Digital Marketing is a constantly-changing industry, you can find yourself taking on new responsibilities when arguably a new employee should be hired to assist. This could be frustrating. - Top management has a certain style which I’ve seen other Glassdoor reviews seem to take issue with. The company suffers from not having new employees ready to take on tasks as they arise, and your best employees would stay longer if you had a structure or clear future incentives in place. Overall I can say that I definitely enjoyed my time at Convertize. The team is extremely welcoming, young and dynamic and good work is recognised. It should be mentioned, that if you consider working for Convertize, you should be able to work independently and take responsibility. Which is seen positive from my point of view as you get the feeling to be a valued and trusted team memeber and you learn and adapt new things quickly. Despite that, if you are showing your passion and capabilities, Convertize is really flexible regarding remote working and promotions. Terrible management by those at the top who speak to interns and employees like slaves. They dictate how the company should be run, yet have no idea how to practise what they preach. They make you feel like you are born to take orders from the managers and they talk to you in a very demoralising and harassing manner. They own you. Here we are able to progress and feel excited about what we're working on. - There is a process-driven approach to team-working and project flow, including test-driven development, code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, continuous integration and even time for keeping technical documentation updated. The process gets better with each added team member. - The satisfaction of team members is crucial to the success of what Convertize delivers. We share our thoughts, help one another and respect each others' opinions. - A dedicated software tester ensures we keep our quality levels high. - Flexibility is available when needed, whether it be working hours or working remotely. It's true that there are plenty of interns (most from good universities like Oxford) but I don't see this as a negative thing. They provide energy and enthusiasm and are fun to work with. The CEO can be direct in his manner - as a mostly French company the working culture is different to more English companies - but I had no issues with this. You will be left alone to do your job which for me is a definite positive. It's true that you don't get a lot of onboarding and will be expected to jump straight in to your work but this is the best way to learn. Overall I've found it an enjoyable place to work. The work is interesting and you have lots of freedom with what you do, as long as you get results. If you're the sort of person who constantly needs reassurance that you're doing a good job and doesn't enjoy constructive criticism then it may not be the right place for you. I enjoyed working with my team whilst I was there. Apart from that, there are no positives to working at Convertize, aside from the repeatedly mentioned 'character building'. - Their interview process was mostly irrelevant to the role and long-winded. - How the company is run and managed is very different to how they want you to perceive it externally. - I could relate my experience at Convertize with all of the other negative Glassdoor reviews. - I was not given any sort of induction to my role - just expected to get on with it. I was introduced to my team by receiving copies of their CVs and their personality test results... - The 'culture' is non-existent – this ‘start-up’ culture is a load of rubbish. The office was always silent. The only thing they do to engage staff is a ‘monthly breakfast’, but you had to go in early for it… - The comments they keep stating on here about Convertize being a ‘challenging and enriching environment’ is just their way of saying they will take advantage, micromanage and bully you. - More than half of the company were interns (there will probably be a response from them after this is posted correcting my figures and something about 'we do have interns from Top European Universities' which they like to copy and paste repeatedly. I apologise if they have adapted their modus operandi to include more than a handful of permanent staff...but I doubt that is the case. - During my short time there, the interns were treated poorly. ‘Management’ calling an intern the stupidest girl in the world, is sexist and discriminatory, as one of many examples. - 'Management' are married, which I only think added to the level of unprofessionalism, politics and nepotism. Nothing you say is confidential. - The management structure is a complete totalitarian dictatorship. The majority of staff work in fear. ‘Management’ were constantly changing their minds, getting involved in minutia and micromanaging, which makes productivity very challenging. - I was told that I was expected to work more than my contracted hours, which is illegal. I then felt pressured to stay later every day after that to avoid future confrontation. If a person thinks everyone else has a problem, it is usually that person with the problem… - Follow statutory employee procedures that are put in place by the UK and EU government. - Start adopting realistic expectations of your staff. - Micromanaging senior staff is not healthy or productive. - I recommend HR should go on courses to obtain more knowledge on UK employment law. - Get an HR resource who actually knows how to identify talent. - Accessing an ex-employee’s Linkedin account and changing their password is fraudulent and illegal. - Don't bother responding to this review. I have zero interest in hearing what you have to say. The multicultural environment is the best I've ever worked in. The work is fulfilling, doesn't overload you with stress and your progression is carefully monitored and aided by senior management. I am blessed to have an amazing manager who is very talented and kind hearted to teach me new skills. Through his guidance, I have improved a lot. I started as an intern and within a very short period of time, I was promoted as a full-time employee. The management acknowledged my interest and work. I was even awarded bonuses on several occasions. Moreover, management quickly recognised my efforts and realised the workload I was having thus within a very shortly I got a new assistant to help me with. Team members are all are very young and friendly. It gives a very good dynamism to the company. I am always thriving for new responsibilities and challenges. This keeps my job interesting and fulfilling. I found here at Convertize, there are great opportunities to do so. Furthermore, option for remote work seems amazing to me. This proves how much my employers trust me with my capacity of fulfilling responsibilities, even without being in front of them which is always appreciated. More social gathering events could be introduced (Really missed the Friday Pub night).
