Good place to work

Solid company with a unique approach as they make they're own wine, have a wine club. Definitely the most different restaurant I've ever worked for. Money was good if you worked hard enough.

I spent 25% of my time handling wine club memberships, not serving the guest. Felt like an IT guy sometimes not a server.

It was the location. The new store in Kentwood is ran poorly. Managers turn into frat boys once the GM & KM are gone. I self trained on other stations, and was never given the raise I was promised. The COMPANY is amazing though!

Horrible management
|
Working at Cooper’s Hawk was a fun experience pre-Covid due to the guests. Fast paced and exciting atmosphere behind the tasting bar and great tips to be made if you delivered a positive experience for the guest. Management and regional management is horrendous. They are discriminatory on every level, childish and incompetent. The management is severely unfair, racist, and I can not stress enough how incompetent they truly are. This is not a place I would recommend for anyone to work. The only problem is management, and unfortunately that’s a HUGE problem. The guests were amazing.

FYI - I was employed in 2019/pre COVID.
The actual hosting job is easy but fast paced. You get to sample the menu and wine during Orientation, plus on-the-job training for the next weeks. Yes, you do have to deal with difficult guests sometimes but that is part of the customer service experience. Some of the team do the bare minimum, but once you figure out who is a hard worker, you know you're gonna get through a busy night.
However, be prepared to buss tables and clean the restrooms. During peak service hours, we would be the ones bussing the tables and resetting them for the next round to keep reservations on time. You will sweat, no joke. We do not receive any tips, but even with helping out with this on management's directions, servers would get annoyed if we either bussed their section too many times or not enough. I understand they have a demanding job and get stressed, but they should sort it out with management instead of taking it out on the host/hostess helping them out.

Great money if you hustle. You can make a decent amount of cash if you work enough. At night there's a ridiculous amount of closing work however and sometimes you don't get out of a morning shift until quite late.
