If you aren't sending emails until 3am - are you actually working?
|
|
Some of the people you get to work with are very hard workers and are willing to help you if they can find the time.
|
If you aren't working as hard as the hardest worker who works until 3am you're not working at all.
If you keep your head down and do your job you're doing something wrong.
If work comes in at 4pm on a Friday that stacks up on whatever else you have on your plate you better plan on working all weekend because the client expectation is to have a 24 hour turn around.
The employee contract states 24 hour customer service meaning you could get an email at any given time and be expected to return a response within 4 hours or less.
If you're not worshiping Princess Meg you're most likely going to be found "not doing your job" but no details will be discussed on how you're not doing your job.
If you want a pay raise you better work until 3am and kiss a lot of tail.
Bonuses come in the form of "stars" and you might get $5-10 a month in a bonus if you work a lot of extra hours.
Meetings with mid and upper level management are awkward because they are rarely on the same page and end up arguing.
If you're not arguing and complaining to mid level management about your clients then what are you actually doing?
You'll be degraded on your abilities regularly because mid level management gets that treatment from upper level management.
Zero work life balance.
If you don't have proof that you worked till 3 am you probably weren't working...IE: copy in management when you send emails at 3am so they know.
Easily one of the worst places I've worked.

Get better training on how to manage people. Consistent communication was at one point a priority and then went away as the team grew. Stop picking favorites and making clicky groups (not all midlevel management may know this is going on - but clicky slack groups are a thing).

Avoid if you value professionalism

Remote work, if you're the sort who does well with that.

Management considers employees disposable, and will fire or lay off employees with no warning. Development is chaotic and disorganized with no discernable process.

The way you treat your employees is reprehensible. You need to adopt some industry standard, written HR policies and stick to them. You also need to invest more time and effort into making sure that mid level management actually knows how to manage people and teams.

Cannot in good conscience recommend
|
|
Working from home is a given since the company has no physical HQ
|
Pay and benefits are really bad by industry standards
Most of the codebase is abysmal
Company morale is perennially down
Project deadlines are almost always unrealistic
Very little appreciation/incentive for putting in extra effort
No real career opportunities other than experience
Work life balance is the butt of a bad joke here

Constant breathing down your neck
|
|
Everyone is remote and the team can be fun to work with. Your schedule is flexible.
|
Work is often uninteresting and repetitive, specifications are often unclear, unrealistic demands relative to dead lines given, no work life balance. Much more bossing happening as opposed to leading.

"Work life balance doesn't exist here." - My Former Manager
|
|
Work from home can be flexible if you have kids, medical concerns that cause you to frequent doctors, or other appointments during the typical 9am-5pm.
Vacation time is flexible too, with typical notice.
|
Little respect or care for employees & treats them as disposable. Revolving door of Account Managers never allowing clients to create a long lasting relationship with their contact at the company.
Employees frequently asked to work and check or answer emails on the weekend and nights despite that not being in contracts regarding salary and other vital info.
Salaries are generally low and not much room for professional or financial growth.

Great Job if You Want to WFH
|
|
If you are a self-starter, wish to work from home, and want to work for a very non-traditional company, this is a good job. The technology team does a fantastic job and most clients that I worked with were generally happy. Senior leadership was also quick to make changes based on client feedback.
|
Salaries are VERY low and there isn't much room for growth professionally nor financially. I didn't get the sense that many employees felt appreciated (part of that is probably the fact that everyone works from home, so you don't get to know your colleagues at all), and senior leadership didn't make much of an attempt to change this.

You do a great job making product changes based on client demand, but be more open to the needs and interests of your employees. If you're going to continue to offer salaries under the market average (at least in major cities), make sure employees feel like they are appreciated and part of a common mission in some way.
