ESD 11 is a board of tyrants that have no clue how to run an EMS agency. They are putting 600,000 people's lives at risk over a personal vendetta with someone that is no longer the head of the agency.

Good medical benefits, stressful job but in a relaxed environment. You get assigned a trainer when you start working.
|
12 hour shifts. If you have your EMT/Paramedic and you work in the communication center, it's hard to get out of the communications center to work on a truck. If you get hired to work nights, you can only switch to days if someone quits or steps down to nights.

It's a good company to work for; the supervisors are usually kind and attempt to help you with issues, or at the very least listen to your concerns.
You don't pay anything for health insurance, and pay one rate for your entire family, irrespective of the number of kids you have.
|
The people who come out of their in-house medic program don't treat their coworkers well. They say that the in-house program is designed to make them "at least as smart as doctors" and don't seem to want any input from their coworkers or partners.
If you're a medic, all of the responsibility is on you. Your partner is your responsibility, and everything they do is your responsibility, even though there are some times when you can't, short of physically restraining them, control their actions.
Likewise, if you're an EMT, especially if you're working with one of their in-house medics, you're responsible for basically nothing. Don't even try to contribute. Just get up front and drive.
You have no way to move up as an EMT other than getting your medic. You can't be a station captain, because that requires managing inventory. You can't do chart reviews, even for other basic's calls. You either get your medic and you're responsible for everything, or keep your basic, with 0 responsibility, and $10 an hour after taxes.

Curb the arrogance of the medic students that come out of your program, and make them understand that they aren't as smart as doctors. Try to confer a sense of humility in them, because being humble goes hand in hand with being accountable, and you need employees who are accountable.

Most of the field staff is smart, hard working, and fun to work with. The schedule is great. Most of the on shift supervisors are easy to work with and helpful.

Non-competitive pay, Management does not care about field staff concerns or issues. Shady pay scale (large discrepancies in salary of people with same position). Equipment constantly breaks down.
