Bad time for the industry
|
This was a good place to work before the 2008 recession. Pay cuts and layoffs since then have been rough. The future is not bright for the entire industry.

Too much micromanaging

You must love your job to work here. It seems like they come in and buy small town newspapers for the legals. Great support between employees. Upper management does not like input and does not listen to suggestions. There are constant problems with their computer programs across the boards.

Mid-management compensation is good, although you work for it.

Enjoyed short hours
|
I prepared and delivered newspapers to residential customers. I enjoyed when they waited to greet me in the morning to receive their newspaper. The freedom of not having a supervisor looking over your shoulder every minute was nice as well.

Fun but low pay

There is a lot of flexibility but the pay is just not enough for the job. People are friendly and work is fulfilling. The bad is there is competition with the Internet news sources, so not a lot of people are willing to pay for subscriptions anymore.

Always something new to look forward to. Making old machines run with newer parts is always a challenge that I like to accomplish. Finding parts that oem wants to charge a lot of money for cheaper from third party is just one of the many tasks I handle. Training new techs and writing standard operating procedures are just a few more things that I take care of.
