Product is impressive and easy to sell. I felt Darex worked hard to make sure your first couple months were full of positivity and delivered on what they promised as far as job duties and benefits. However, after the initial newness wore off I started noticing that the management, specifically the CEO played favorites based on how much he liked a person. This trickled down through management and felt like a clique in high school. You could clearly tell who wasn’t part of the cool crowd and nothing was based on how hard you worked or the amount you contributed. I would consistently hear what they called “3rd party talk” coming from the people who preached about not conducting this type of “talk”. You could then call someone out on doing this, and 15 minutes later be pulled into an office and reprimanded for doing so. So disappointing. One perk was ability to work from home occasionally and/or flexible hours on Friday. Be very careful about this - those who took advantage were looked down on for not working as much as those who opted to work the standard 8-5. Or my favorite, you must tell your manager exactly what you will be doing for the entire day. The desks are cool. They laid off 12 people two weeks before Christmas, with no warning that the company was struggling. The CEO seems to promote people based on tenure at the company and their relationship with him, instead of their ability to effectively lead a team. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 4.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 735196 Open Stop incentivizing employees with company parties and alcohol so they will vote you a “top workplace.” Live your core values. They strive for a culture of openness and honestly. They take great pride in their products (and the products are actually pretty amazing). There is a general lack of empathy for the employees. I fully understand that letting people go is sometimes part of business. Letting a bunch of people go 2 weeks before Christmas seems a bit cruel. Their policy for laying people off borders on hostile. You are pulled from your desk in the middle of the day, told that they are laying you off, then told that you can't empty out your desk. Apparently you can come back at a later time if you want any of your stuff. I love coming to work most days, and enjoy direct and open communication with every single person. I am free to be myself and performance is based on results, not how many meetings you attend or hours you work. If you want to learn, you get the opportuntity. If you dont understand, you are expected to speak up. If you have a problem, you deal with it directly and effectively with the person. The products speak for themselves, and continue to evolve with consumer needs. The business is built for the long haul, working toward success in every moment, but not by mortgaging the future. Not everybody will have a chance to work at a place like Darex in their career. I gained invaluable perspective on human interactions, both professionally and personally, from working within the culture at Darex. The high feedback environment is refreshingly different from anywhere else I've worked. The aim toward true teamwork, openness and honesty reduces workplace drama and enables people to just focus on getting the job done. Darex knows how to pull together to meet tight deliverables but also have a great time with breaks and celebrations along the way. I left Darex when my husband's job required relocation, but if not for that circumstance I would still be there today. As a female leader I was greatly supported in a technical world often dominated by men, but also was supported in balancing my life and starting a family. I miss being surrounded by people equally passionate about delivering for the business and improving the quality of their lives both in and outside work. Clearly defined expectations & "own your experience" culture. If you don't know where you stand with your supervisor - it's on you. Generally everyone is happy & positive, and I enjoy coming to work.
