If you are looking for trailblazing inspiration and mentorship in your career as a future scientist or medical researcher, it would serve you well to look at peer institutions. - Although there is plenty of training, the bar is set very low for entry-level employees' qualifications. That said, if you identify as an ambitious person, you might find it challenging to work with colleagues who cannot see the bigger picture of higher education because they never attended college. - Diversity issues are paid with lip service, ie.) you will work with colleagues who share a name with the person who signs your cheque. - Departmental quality varies across the institution. In some departments, PI's and chairs boast high EQ's and are natural managers with intelligent support staff. Good access to Dartmouth libraries and other resources. The financial setbacks are far from over. The ceiling remains low in terms of advancement for staff positions whether one is hired without a college degree or with an MD/PhD. This explains the "traditional" approach to management.
