Good place to develop, but not without typical challenges

|
Generally, things work well from a news and operational standpoint, with the management dysfunction no different than most other TV stations. Tegna is a decent enough company to work for, and Tampa Bay is a nice place to live.
|
Without longtime talent fronting the newscasts, the station is constantly floating in a sea of change. That means management is always tinkering in the newsroom, and sales managers still somehow always seem surprised when arbitrary quotas aren't met. The "do more with less" mentality also is prevalent, but that's the industry these days.

TV station has no clue when it comes to news, thinks social media should dictate a newscast. That's fine for a segment, but not your entire newscast! Also, management was toxic, firing or letting go the entire newsroom only to replace them with someone for a fraction of the salary.

The proximity to restaurants are pretty decent, but that's about the only pro. There is no security and most of the cameras in the station don't even function properly. They're just there for show. Unlike Fox and WFLA that has beautiful buildings and security. WTSP is so cheap and cuts corners in every way that they can.

No emphasis on local news. Mainly focused on what's trending on Facebook for the sole purpose of deciding what stories to air. It's not a news station anymore. It's Facebook Part 2 essentially. It used to be something so great where people were so happy and felt proud about the stories being aired, but now if it's not trending on Facebook that somehow makes it not newsworthy.
