You are at the forefront of developments in the financial industry 2) Excellent work life balance 3) Professional respect from peers in the pvt sector 4) Excellent trainings available 5) Research oriented work 1) Quality of management is very poor 2) Very flat organisation. Growth requires dabbling in heavy politics (culture of elbowing out colleagues promoted) 3) Organisation has several jaded seniors who are stuck in a rut but continue to work because of the job security 4) No parking and travel allowance not that good 5) Low salary compared to pvt sector -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 2.0 2.0 5.0 1.0 4.0 2.0 1.0 336564 Open 1) Get some experience from pvt companies to know how a professional organisation is run 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 6.0 Jan 24th, 2021 08:42PM Jan 24th, 2021 08:42PM De Nederlandsche Bank
private:denederlandschebank https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=336564 Dec 29th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open De Nederlandsche Bank Amsterdam DNB is a high-risk employer for new employees without the risk premium in salary and benefits -The subject matter which you deal with at DNB in financial company supervision is often very fascinating and important (often much more so than the supervisory activities themselves and the manner in which they are executed). This knowledge may render you more valuable on the employment market after what is likely to be only a temporary period of employment at DNB. -DNB makes an effort to offer significant additional training opportunities (but the in-house offering is low-quality and neigh obsolete, and management is ultimately quite price sensitive). -Work-life balance is very skewed towards life (but ultimately skewed strongly to ‘life’ thereby sometimes impinging on organizational agility). -Much of the supervision work has taken on a European dimension offering career perspectives outside of The Netherlands. -There are numerous hobby and sport associations at DNB as well as a gym in the main building with a quintessential personal trainer. -I experienced DNB as a high-risk employer for new employees. Management is excessively finicky in their hiring. Expect a protracted application period (6 months in total for me) and a compulsion on DNB’s part to maximize the temporary contract period before considering offering a permanent contract (2 years at the time of this writing, will be legally extended to 3 years in The Netherlands). DNB lets quite a large percentage of people go after their 2-year maximum temporary contracting period is completed. Compared to the private sector, DNB seems to be impervious to the consequences and high costs (direct and indirect) associated with its very high rate of turnover. -The employee assessment system is byzantine and lacks an assessment of concrete deliverables. Instead, it is based om a large number of qualitative nominalizations which are ultimately subjective and difficult to objectively prove or disprove. This makes the assessment cycle onerous for managers and employees alike and makes it extremely political as well. There was no 360-degree feedback in my division. -It is difficult to get reassigned during your temporary contract period, which, as stated above, is likely to last for the maximum allowable time by law. Most managers want the entire 2-year time period before deciding to hire you on a “permanent contract” basis. Temporary contracts are function-dependent and not a general contract for employment with DNB, which also makes changing assignments difficult during a temporary employment period. -DNB’s ”appointed persons” for dealing with workplace hostility and harassment (‘vertrouwenspersonen’) are not part of an independent organ which can hold managers accountable for abusive behavior and appear to carry little if any weight in HR or compliance oversight. Instead, the ‘vertrouwenspersonen’ act merely as a personal counselor and only in exceptional circumstances as a feedback loop to the next highest manager in the hierarchy. -DNB’s commuting allowance is not well suited to people who live outside of Amsterdam: There are no lease cars (except for managers), no parking facilities, a limited kilometer travel allowance for those who travel by private transport. But if you bike to work from ‘de Pijp’ then this won’t matter. -Other reviewers have cited this as well, but I found the quality of managers at DNB to be quite poor. I believe that it has more to do with the culture at DNB and the tone at the top than remuneration. -I experienced DNB as a highly politicized culture, intolerant of diverging political opinions thereby rendering impossible certain kinds of discussions which may be necessary in order to devise effective financial sector regulation. -DNB is becoming increasingly defensive and uncomfortable about its increasingly subordinated role within a pan-European supervisory apparatus. Despite providing career mobility for some, this has a tangible negative impact on DNB's culture. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 3.0 2.0 5.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 336564 Open DNB needs to recognize that its culture is regressive by current standards despite some lower-level positive elements in the organization, and hence could use some 'glasnost' and 'perestroika'. This will require more than merely making some token diversity appointments and pursuing environmentalism and other progressive political causes. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 0.0 Jan 24th, 2021 08:42PM Jan 24th, 2021 08:42PM De Nederlandsche Bank
