Working outside in the gardens on my laptop

Since I was working on a specific design project for Denver Botanic Gardens, I had a shared office space. I loved that when the weather was nice, my team and I would go into the gardens and work outside on our laptops vs sitting indoors at our desks.

Fun place to Volunteer
|
The pay is free but it is a fun group of people giving back to the community caring for the Denver gardens. It is relaxed atmosphere with the hardest part of the job is finding parking near the gardens. I learned so much more about plants and what is blooming and when. The job does require a lot of standing and can get busy. The mgmt is rockstar!

Great people but operates in silos because managment doesn't get along
|
The departments here do not work together well. There is some resentment that the gardens has become a a place of science and arts, and not just a place of great beauty. Many of the executives clearly do not work well together and it trickles down to the employees. The people are nice, and well educated but it feels dysfunctional as everyone is not on board with the direction of the institution.

Toxic management, low pay

The management in the maintenance department attempted to create ever-shifting production targets and expectations and a cut-throat work environment. Luckily most of the employees were not on board with this, circumventing management's attempts to stir the pot. The pay was not anywhere close to be able to afford living in Denver, even with full-time work.

I wasn’t really a fan of the management and they were racially discrimitive and that is what drove me to leave. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life and it made it to where I didn’t want to show up.
