Low point of my career

Most staff are highly competent and dedicated, despite poor salary and high responsibility.
|
Long working hours expected with no overtime payment or time back.
Line managers have no training for the role - soft skills often lacking.
Huge problem with nepotism.
Lower lab staff are treated as worker bees with no professional development prospects.
During my 3+ years at DNAe I felt extremely undervalued and frustrated, and since moving on have excelled in a company that recognises and rewards my work. Leaving was the best decision for my career and personal sense of worth.

Management are selfish, greedy and essentially useless! They take their wage and slowly dig the company into the ground. Development of junior staff is the last priority, technical excellence is a thing of mythology and a potentially brilliant technology is going to be lost to poor management and greedy leadership.

The technology is potentially amazing. Each day you are facing new challenging problems.
The mission is a daily motivational boost.
The co-workers are nice and the multi cultural environment brings that extra to the office. The Social and Sports club is pretty cool!
The location is definitely a plus.

Some of the management is simply not competent. Some just are sticking around not adding value. DNAe can’t afford that.
Managers are not always accountable for their teams success.
At times lack of communication becomes the biggest limiting factor.

It is a place that the misinformation helps to create lots of gossiping, people are in constant fear to lose their jobs due to unrealistic deadlines and restructuring. There are some ethnic groups who speak their own language to gossip as well even if we are in English spoken country.

Slow paced for a company with such aggressive deadlines. ineffective people management.

Challenging problems to solve, a few very talented individuals to work with. A great product for a fantastic cause. Good location. Clear efforts from CEO to build a better business.

Chaos middle management, childish staff, immature outlook, lack of technical rigour. Slow paced, Very few opportunities to develop as an individual and gain technical skills or management. Only a few members of staff to really learn much from in terms of technical skills, and they rarely stick around for more than a year! Staff retention is a problem, especially the talented ones.
The supermarket mentality, many of the workers want to take the company for a ride, the company allows it. Many individuals with little investment in the success of the company, makes for an uninspiring place to work.
Very little chance for promotion, new titles constantly popping up between levels, making each promotion pointless, the goal posts constantly moved.
