You are overworked and underpaid. I’m sorry but $11 to clean up dog waste and throw up? Or having to stop a dog fight between two dogs that weigh more than you? General manager in the store during my employment was wonderful. She herself was a great understanding, easy-going, and reasonable all while keeping everything running smoothly. This job is NOT at all worth the $16.55 per hour that you work. First of all, it's all mostly part-time hours. Second, you work over 4 hour shifts and they don't give you the 15 minute break you're legally supposed to have. Third, I got really sick one day and was told I can't call in sick which is ridiculous. They shove you in a room with 15+ dogs that have no business being in the same room. Fights between dogs break out constantly and they still accept the dogs that will put the others in danger. There's barely any regulation to the dogs they allow in their daycare. They also throw so many responsibilities at you when you're trying to prioritize the dogs' safety. Overall, this place has no ethics and morals and working here is not at all worth it. There's a lot of cleaning involved and multitasking is a must. But this was one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had, and I miss it! Coworkers are awesome, the manager is amazing. The job started out amazing, until it wasn’t. It’s high stress and you’re expected to do 98% of the job yourself with no help. Prepare to look after 20 to 35 dogs, some of which have been boarding for a while and have had enough with other dogs. You’re also expected to clean the entire room all whilst making sure the dogs won’t start a scuffle. If one breaks out, you’ll likely be blamed for not paying attention despite nobody offering to help whatsoever. The amount of dogs stuck in one room together with one canine coach is absolutely absurd and is a safety hazard for the coaches and the pups. The minimum per room should be at the bare minimum 2 staff members. Speaking of staff, the staff are decent, but there were signs of favoritism whether it was intentional or not. There was also a lot of gossip about other staff members behind their backs which felt like high school all over again. Pay is okay, above minimum wage, which is better than a lot of places can say. But there’s no raises at all. There’s a high turnover rate for a reason. This particular location has had multiple managers and PPRM now and feels like never enough staff. It was more like a family and does not have that same feel anymore. They usually dont include us in any of the actually fun things we use to at least help with or watch like the events or include us with videos. I love the dogs and getting to hang out with them every day that’s the most enjoyable part, but definitely not as fun of a job as it use to be. One of the most expensive doggy daycare places in the area, but too little hours to live off of. What is the best part of working at the company? Working with the dogs, and getting to know them What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Too many staff was hired, so you maybe only got 13hrs a week. 13hrs a week at 13/hr in one of the most expensive cities to live in. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Poor communication and community. The bosses and managers are very hard to talk to. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Get there at 6:30am, and start signing in dogs at 7am. I felt that it was unresponsible to leave just one room attendant in a room with so many dogs with the chance of a "serious scuffle" which they spoke about very casually. In better words, a serious scuffle is where the dogs get into a massive miscommunication and fight, and you have to find a way to break it up. Either with things they provide you, or physically. And you CAN get badly hurt. Ive seen things run better by other places so now, thinking back on it, it's very scary to me. If you think it'll be a fun job, and it's just petting dogs and stuff, reconsider and find another application for another place. At least every day I was told by coworkers they were surprised I wasn't hurt yet, that a scuffle hadn't happened yet, etc. So clearly they think that these things NEED to happen. Those conversations were very uncomfortable and I found that I felt sometimes management didn't care. It's like they did, but about the wrong things. Breaks, break room with snacks and a fridge.
