Interesting programs at the school but that’s my only positive honest opinion

I felt personally overworked and I am not lazy. There’s so much miscommunication, and it’s a very chaotic work environment. Many are underpaid, and people constantly quitting because of various issues. In my opinion they only care about making money off of the students and not what happens to them afterwards.

I was a hard-working, focused, team player who worked for Douglas Education Center for several years. I was awarded daily not only by fellow employees but the great students who enrolled and graduated with their promising future ahead. The dedicated Admission, Financial Aid, Business, Education, and Placement Departments worked continuously to meet the needs of each student. The Instructors are knowledgeable and dedicated to their students. I personally found the President, Jeff Imbrescia, to be a honest, hard-working, loyal visionary. I only wish that every person looking for employment can achieve the great experiences, rewards, friendships, and great memories I achieved by working at DEC.

I can honestly say that those who have negative comments are people who created their own negative situations. People loose their own jobs by not communicating their situations or not being a team player and work for the common goal of creating a great working environment.

If anyone ever gets on Glassdoor and says it’s a great place to work they are either mentally disabled and dillusional or they are personal friends with the CEO and was asked to give a great review to counteract all the negative reviews
Runs a slumlord operation to generate income , but yet claims it’s separate from DEC to dodge ceratain laws because he feels he’s above the law

No advice , more of a warning to everyone ....every level of the organization is crooked and would never listen nor take any advice because that would take away their only way to earn money , thru dishonesty and smoke and mirrors . Would pay to see this evil operation shut down If I had the resources . They have perfected the art of money con of all cons . Let's set the record straight!

I too worked at Douglas for approximately 4 years and only had the best experiences during my time there. I and would recommend this company to anyone that cares about the life cycle of students getting a top notch education. The rewards are endless. There are so may fantastic people there that work extremely hard and care so much about the students and the school they represent. Where else can you go to school so close to the Pittsburgh area and park for nearly nothing, get the best education available and have job placement for life and I mean real job placement. The Career counselors work directly with graduates and follow them to infinity and beyond! You will never experience any other school that houses professional and caring personnel with the integrity that surpasses all others.

I waited a long time to write this...

There are really good people that work there. But...
|
They all work under the same tyrant. Please understand that I have not worked at Dec in years. When i did work there, the atmosphere was toxic. I don't say this about many people at all, but the President of the company is an awful person and the single reason this place gets bad reviews (on the employee side). He sits there in his office stealing money from these FX kids and promises them a future by dangling Tom Savini and Hollywood over their heads. He will say the back end drives the front end, but all he really cares about is numbers.

The students can be wonderful. Many are highly creative and modivated. Co-workers can also be great - need each other's support.
|
The president is a bully and control freak. He does not appreciate and verbally abuses employees. He is completely unprofessional and, although the school has some great people and students, I don't recommend it to anyone - potential student or employee. The arts programs do not deliver students the jobs that are promised.

Some good employees but most of the good ones left. A lot of good teachers but they are burning out, too.
|
This place is not a good place to work at all. It all starts with the boss. He doesn't treat his employees well at all. His kids work there and they get special treatment. The morale is sad. I would recommend asking about the turnover rate which is horrible. I would definitely recommend NOT working there. it is not a pleasant atmosphere.

I really enjoyed working with the students.
|
The first thing you should ask during your interview is what the turnover rate is at Douglas. The number of employees that have left in the last five years is astounding. The next question you should ask is why? The reason that I left was because i was made to feel very uncomfortable in what appeared to me to be a very hostile work environment. There is a common uneasy thread among the employees at Douglas that seems to be due to the erratic behavior of the president and his decisions to hire his children for positions they seem to be not qualified to hold. I've never felt like I worked in a more hostile work environment than during my time at Douglas. I witnessed harassment and demeaning comments made by those in the President's Office. These have included overweight employees, the attractiveness of a female employee, and the stupidity of an employee, just to name a few. I was completely frustrated and dissatisfied with my time spent at Douglas. I spent the majority of my evenings searching for a new job because of the circus I was dealing with during the day at work. One employee who had been there for a while used to tell me that Douglas was a facade... a bunch of a card board cutouts that look pretty cool from the outside, but once you get behind them you can see how fake it really is. And that was an accurate portrayal of my time at Douglas. There is little to no career advancement that can happen at Douglas.
All of the reviews on this site are 99.99% accurate, excluding the one review that is positive. That was posted here in an attempt by the school to thwart the negative postings.

This is the most shameful job I have ever had.
The school succeeds by attracting students into a program endorsed by a celebrity with a cult following. If this practice isn't illegal for an accredited institution, it's definitely unethical.
In addition to nearly $30K in tuition, supplies and fees, students are encouraged to pay for housing that is also owned by the school's CEO.
Once these students graduate, they are left with very few opportunities and encouraged to take low-paying jobs that can be classified as in-field so the school can reach it's placement ratio to remain accredited. If graduates do not communicate with school in the months after they leave, they are stalked on Facebook and marked as placed as soon as anyone at the school sees that they have done something as far-reaching as bridal makeup for a relative.
This school enrolls anyone who can come up with the money - typically through federal financial aid and loans - regardless of their aptitude, moves them through the program regardless of grades or attendance (retention also counts towards accreditation) and forgets about them a year after they graduate, because their employment status no longer counts at this point.
That being said, the students are treated better than the employees at Douglas Education Center.

Well, I wouldn't normally post on things like this to create drama, but this needs to be put out there for others to see. This place is a joke. Literally, the first day I started, everyone in admissions talked terribly about the owner and the other departments; telling me "watch out- if you don't go drinking with the owner/CEO and his favorites, you will encounter drama and harassment." So, off top, that was a red flag.... Now, of course, naturally, I ignored it and became friends with everybody. This only created more drama. The owner/CEO is very unprofessional, but has the nerve to call everybody else unprofessional. I have never encountered so much drama under one roof in my entire life! Not even middle school! Right before I started packing my desk to leave this nightmare, the owner/CEO threatened me and specifically told me not to post on this site. And, if it wasn't for one of my coworkers in admissions (who started most of the drama) showing me this site, I would have never known about it.... Oh and did I mention, it's one of the same coworkers that brags to everyone how he/she smokes weed with the owner/CEO and steals from the college by altering the mileage logs, (also the same person that is suppose to be showing me the ropes!).. Needless to say, I was not employed here very long for obvious reasons..... I refused to deal with the drama, childish, and unprofessional antics.... I hope somebody sees this, and the previous posts about this place of employment! Since 4 people (not including me) have recently quit / put their 2 weeks notice in just this week, they will be looking for new employees. These posts are real and I hope to save somebody the time and face... Good luck to the select few, wonderful employees that actually keep that place somewhat normal. I give them credit for dealing with the BS!

Advice to management? I wouldn't waste my time giving advice because the owner feels it's either his way or the highway. And since he is the owner, there's nothing anybody can do about it - no HR dept, etc., to talk about his terrible management skills.
