For the short duration of my employment at Drybar, I found it to be a unique working environment that has both pros and cons as to what was needed from me for the success of the business. The pros are as follows; -Fast paced environment that has you hustling and bustling to ensure the shop is in cyclical, functional operation -You will have responsibilities that can drastically affect the performance of the shop, indicating your importance and impact -Learning about the company culture and opportunities it presents -Loose dress code to allow for self expression and comfort during working hours The cons are as follows; -Fast paced environment that requires timeliness from both stylists and clients which is never guaranteed -Resiliancy to customer dissatisfaction and the ability to amend customer concerns while also being profitable (and having authorization). -Problem solving due to company and timeliness mismanagement from both customers and stylists, thus being the first person to be questioned for any consequences that were not at your own fault -Possibly unique to my circumstance, but consistent and direct manager support was not available for the first month and half of my employment, thus negatively impacting my potential success due to lack of authorization, training, etc. -Lack of products available to sell which greatly impacted potential commission earnings (due to corporate allocation going to other businesses instead of franchised locations) -Possibly unique to my circumstance, but there was no in-depth onboarding from an experienced manager, thus any knowledge for my role was primarily from one coworker in the same role as mine, self-learning through employee-made manuals (yes, my coworkers made the onboarding and product knowledge books for our franchise shop because such material does not exist or is not easily accessible), or through trial and error. -Being overworked (one new hire quit shortly after onboarding due to several overwhelming first few days, which they had to work leaving a bad first impression). -Rigid schedules with very little flexibility. -And on a personal note, a family emergency occured and I was only made aware within 5 hours of my scheduled shift (at 6am in the morning, starting work at 11am I believe). When management was informed 20 minutes after I learned about it, I was allowed to attend to the matter but was reminded of the company time-off policy, which was 24 hours I believe. Again, during a family emergency I was reminded of policy. I have also come into work many times prior to this emergency on my personally requested days off and scheduled days off, with no other family emergencies happening or sudden leaves from work before or after this. Do with that as you will. This company needs restructuring in terms of policy, staffing, and how it operates with regards to timeliness expectations from both staff and clients. Back to back booking (good and bad part of job). Time restrictions on hair types that may need more time. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Pleasant. Co-workers were awesome. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Pretty busy from start to finish. 5-7 clients pre-booked per day. Great music, great coworkers. Supportive owner. With the pay, I had to get another job to make ends meet especially with the cuts made to our hours that are never guaranteed. High turnover in management & stylists. Between management & the staff it felt like high school or the bad girls club, definitely not like a job. I personally will not look back at this job or even think about working at another drybar. This is a good place to start out, after beauty school. They train you to do all different styles they have to offer. Pretty easy to do, you just need to be quick because it gets REALLY BUSY. If you're running behind usually someone helps you or they'll move appointments around, just be ready to not eat until after your shift if you worked through your lunch. Personally, I didn't have a good experience with management but I recommend this place if you want something easy to do. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Some girls are not booked for the appropriate time they need. You're supposed to be done doing a blowout at 45 mins, but if you have a girl that has TONS of hair and curly it's just not possible. Then you're late for the entire day. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Mean girl city, they say its drama free. There's two girls at san diego delmar location, that have terrible attitudes. One girl would make fun of me because I would use a step stool to help me work. Another would just be talking a whole lot of mess about EVERYONE, it just sucks because they're actually really good stylists but their attitude just plain out sucks.
