Management is very controlling and consists of an over zealous ‘Human Resources’ person whom seems to make it her business to be involved into everything petty going on except her job, advising personnel. The supervisors try to be supportive the best that they are allowed, but seem in fear of going against ‘management’ or disagreeing with policies. With the different programs there, which have very different participant needs, the hours are not flexible for the employee and you are told that they are. In fact, flexible means that you are to schedule around the clients’ schedule/work hours, even when they may only be available after your regularly scheduled work day. There is no flex-time to adjust the hours that you work over 40 either. There are heath & life insurance benefits along with an IRA. The office environment can be toxic and isn’t cohesive to a positive work day, lots of back biting and pettiness. Overall, if you’re looking for a job in direct human services that involve lots of driving and going into clients homes that may or may not have critters, unsafe environment, possible meth houses, etc this is the job for you. Just don’t expect too much support from your supervisor or director.

I felt like I walked on egg shells. There was a lot of office drama and a lot of hush hush behind people's backs. I do not feel they were ethical with certain decisions made.

|
Staff members are not always treated fairly. Issues with management are pervasive. Staff are required to fundraise as volunteers. Staff memebers are generally low paid home visitors without the support needed to improve the lives of families.

Actual Job is fun. management not so much

The job is fun but management leaves room for improvement. Pay and benefits are on par. Flexibility of schedule is great. Training is provided and can be informative and applicable to many areas.

Non-profit has good benefits to help compensate poor pay
|
Dunebrook is a child advocacy center with free family support programs to help prevent child abuse and strengthen families. Direct service workers go into families home to educate on child development, parenting, and help parents reach whatever goals they need help with. The culture at Dunebrook can be playful to help staff deal with the stress of the job. The most difficult part of the job is working with people who sometimes do not want any help nor see any reason to change their parenting. The most enjoyable part is when you see parents take new information, change how they interact with their children, and learn to love being a family.
