Most of the people there were respectful. You are around paint thinner all day and it's hard not to get covered in the paint. I started working at Durcon as I had the experience they needed. Within 30 minutes of my first day, I realized what a poor company this was and regretted joining. I have worked in manufacturing for 15 years and I have never been in such an unorganized and unsafe environment that is Durcon. The only positive I saw was the hard working employees that are eager to do a good job but lack leadership. They come in to run unsafe machines that are missing screws and guards and breath in hazardous chemicals. They offer respirators but the heat makes it hard to wear and see very well. A/C is turned off to save on electricity and machines are poorly maintained and are only looked at when something breaks that makes that machine inoperable. Then after working in such conditions, you are only offered 1 thirty minute break for lunch. Companies that care about their employees wellness offer at least 2 additional 10 minute breaks. Not here. I left for lunch and kept on driving. I pray for the well-being of those who choose to stay. Plenty of parking and hard working coworkers. They want nothing but quantity at work. Material can have numerous defects and they still send it to customers. Raises are an embarrassment. Long time knowledgeable employees get paid horrible compared to new hires who must be taught what we've learned over the years. If not by Wilsonart because of too many employees are getting sick. Or because of loosing all its customers due too the bad product they are sending off. Management talks bad to employees and get slapped on the wrist. Fabrications is the lowest paid in the company yet health risk is the highest. Safety is extremely poor, you never see the safety man. Not to mention the poor training the main reason many people quit. They only care about quantity, not quality, employee happiness, or even how well the machinery is working. They want you to do the job of 2 or more people with defective equipment, usually no safety guards on the saw blades. Supervisors are chosen on who they know and not what they know. These job is not really rewarding if you love your family time.. long hours(good paycheck) short or no weekends. Management was very supportive. I was to able to expand my knowledge in HR with the limited staffing. They have a high turnover and shut off the air at the hottest point of the day. At Durcon we would make laboratory technician tables. I would pour mix into a bucket then go to a machine and mix it together, also we wouldn't pour hardening liquid into the mixture and heat it up.
