Beware of Toxic Management Culture

I'm struggling to think of any positive aspects to my experience at EarnUp.
|
While the company presents itself as a promising startup, the reality behind the scenes is quite different. One of the most concerning aspects of my time here was the behavior of the Head of Engineering. Unfortunately, he consistently displayed disrespectful behavior towards myself and my colleagues. It seemed that almost every interaction with him was met with condescension or dismissiveness. What made matters worse was the apparent lack of accountability. Despite doing little to no actual work, upper management turned a blind eye to his behavior.
The HR team failed to support individuals who came forward against him. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire engineering team leaves because of him.

One of the best companies to work for in this part of the world. The Costa Rica team is doing an exceptional job from start to finish, the management is transparent, respectful and very professional. They communicate exceptionally to take the work to another level and pay great attention to detail. The entire team is a big family and they work together every day. I love the company and what they do and I would love to see it grow.

EarnUp is a company that strives to make their collaborators feel like home, being the Costa Rica office a really high-comfy place to work at. There's is also several activities done at least every three years that compensate not having any salary bonus, in addition to the daily supplies offered at the office.
|
Since it's been considered a start-up for a very long time and it looks like it will be for a mid term as far as I can foresee, there is not many room for professional development rather than doing your own work everyday. But you can definitely progress if you are a proactive professional, something we all must have.

Unless you raise your hand and look for opportunities yourself (which can also be considered good as every worker should be that proactive), you might not find opportunities to grow in your career.

Toxic working environment created by one of the people in leadership. Leadership wondered why product doesn't come out fast enough. Leadership did meetings with employees to figure out why. they said it was caused by remote work. A bunch of people got laid off, especially those who have issues with a particular leader of eng (though he definitely doesn't have leader quality). and then they hired contractors from South America. They said the issue was remote work, then they replaced their full time employees with contractors from South America 🤯. You should work here if you can get along with this person, just not my cup of tea.

Amazing Costa Rica Team

We have an amazing Costa Rica site environment. Always willing to assist each other, you can feel the vibe as long as you walked in the hall. I like the vision and mission of the Company. The CH team is amazing and how close we are to each other even though we have two members located in SF. We get to manage the workload that we have and any other fire drill that comes along the way. Our management team takes care of us and is always motivating us. Our management team leads by example by helping us with tickets. Good benefits and I love our office location.

We are understaffed and we are even assisting other teams with daily tasks due to the layoffs. So the team sometimes feels burnout. It is concerning the future of the company.

Easy location access, good benefits, excellent management team, good work environment, you feel respected and that everyone cares for each other. Most of the people who have applied to positions and had interviews say that would like to keep the job just because of how the people is and environment feels, we are a great TEAM!
