The good is my fellow department faculty. The bad is the incompetent administration.

Very disappointed for the last 15 years. Before that, great place to work and the faculty was appreciated. They talk about shared governance, but that is a joke. Major decisions, even really stupid ones that they later acknowledge- done with no input from faculty.

Great place to work if you don't like to work
|
If you are a hard worker and self motivating person who enjoys the routine of work/home life, then don't work here. Hourly employees only get paid for 37.5hrs a week (EKU will not let you work 40hrs/week) and often will require you to work Holidays without double pay compensation but rather will instruct you to use it as "comp time" which is in direct violation of their HR policies. There are no raises unless you apply for another job in a completely different department. EKU does not value actual hard work, they simply want you to be complacent with Holidays and EKU Time-Off. This is evident in their lack of any formal performance reviews. There is so much administrative dead weight no wonder people are easily laid off year after year while higher ups retain if not increase their salaries. I have worked here nearly 10 years and everything I have just stated is true and genuine. Unless you are only working here for the tuition waiver, find a non-university job to give yourself more opportunities for the future. The short term benefits at EKU seem good until you realize what you are sacrificing for them.

Convenient job
|
Good co workers, convenient work bc they work around your class schedule. I didn’t really care for my boss at the time, she could be mean & sometimes felt like she was taking advantage of being an authority figure. Kinda snobby, but my fellow student workers were Nice

Work/life balance is not even close to a thing. You are very overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated. The administration lacks diversity, empathy, and a general caring for their fellow human being.

Positive environment, but pay could be better
|
You get to work and start with emails, collection accounts, and settlements for students. There are weekly meetings, but you are independent in your job, and are given freedom to complete tasks as they come along. The best part is it is stricly 8:00-4:30, so no guessing about when you get to go home.

Friendly environment at all jobs (upper management, peers, subordinates)

No yearly raises, but insurance goes up every year.

It's Not Bad

EKI is not a bad place to work, but the work hours are long and sometimes it does feel like you are on an island. The pay is below average to average for a state university but it is okay I guess.

Great place to work!

It's a public university so you aren't going to get rich but it's a fun place to work with lots of good people. I think EKU is the perfect size school; a lot going on and many excellent programs, but small enough to have a centralized campus.
