Previously there was more traveling to unique locations and monthly birthday celebrations. Lots of good training for improvement. Work from home flexibility. There is a culture of exclusivity instead of inclusivity where there is only one way or the highway. Also the business model is falling like a house of cards since the company is dependent on events. All the events are moving to a digital format and suffering from attendance. The management is wonderful, always open door policy and easy to connect with. The typical hierarchy structure of offices are not here, I feel I can express and create in an open environment that encourages free thinking and new ideas. The company encourages individuality and values new ways to create smarter strategies and push typical boundaries. We have a solid team that is fun and easy to collaborate with, we work hard but achieve great outcomes. Jet lag, we travel globally for our events. (perhaps things were different prior to 2015). The company is part of Informa, a global leader in business intelligence and events. Most of the employees that work for EBD Group have been with the company 5+ years (and some for 20 years). It almost feels like a "family"- very driven by teamwork. I think that says a lot about the culture and the opportunities for growth. The influence of the parent company has been extremely valuable for my team. Over the past few years, there has been a "digital transformation initiative" - this has allowed for significant growth of existing employees to think differently, strategically, and develop their skills/knowledge to be successful in a digital world. There has been a lot of investment in training, knowledge and skill development. During this time, I've seen many of my team members grow, and it's been great to watch as they become more capable and empowered. It's also exciting to utilize digital tools and analytics to see actual results and apply best practices based on what has worked, and what hasn't. I see opportunity for growth within the company for those who take initiative and work hard...the company provides plenty of opportunities to promote within. I've worked for various companies (large & small) for 20 years. I strongly believe that the opportunities, values, and leadership are top-notch. The benefits package (great healthcare, 401K, sharematch programs) are also rare to find these days. And, if you like travel and find value in engaging w/ global constituents...this company also provides great opportunities for that. with an ever-going event lifecycle...the workload is always full! There is absolutely no incentive to think outside the box or do your best work here--only cold, hard and unchanging expectations that are poorly thought out and dictated by middle management. Every employee, particularly those who are not family members of upper management, is thought of as a simple cog that turns this ancient wheel forward in a boring, disengaged, and conservative industry. Workload comes in two extremes: some employees are constantly maxed out and stressed due to the expectation to churn out dozens of deliverables per week (while abiding to ineffective, inefficient workflows/standard operating procedures simply because “we've been doing it that way for 10 years.”) Others watch Netflix at their desk for 8 months out of the year. For those who remain busy, expect 95% of your energy to be expended on ironing out administrative detail and 5% towards actual work/brainstorming (ideas are usually squashed by imperious managers who lost their creativity 5 years ago due to working at this company). The company's entire portfolio (services, products, marketing, websites, internal corporate web, databases, etc.) is hard to respect considering that it looks and works as if it was developed in Jurassic times. Company is too stingy to invest a dime on basic needs such as workflow management tools, CRM, a server (yes—seriously), integrated marketing tools, GoToMeeting (we use the trial version), sufficient number of staff, sufficiently skilled staff (cough, developers)... don’t expect management to let go of their pennies and nickels for efforts to improve team relations, much less a company holiday party. There is no culture, no team meetings besides dry, biweekly data reports to the entire company that most do not benefit from, no strategy, and LEAST of all any appreciation or acknowledgment of work talents. Just a very relentless cycle of produce, produce, produce while someone breathes down your back. If you are comfortable in the position you are starting, good. If you are looking for growth, stay away. Nothing there ever changes. The management is terrible. HR does not exist. Rights for employees depend on "favorites", and even for favorites they don't meet the industry standards. If come fresh from school, this might be a good start for you.
