private:econify https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=1300235 Jul 11th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Econify Software Engineer New York, NY Literally the best Employer I've ever had I feel rather qualified to leave this review, as not only a recent Econify employee, but also as a software engineer with a 20 year career spread across San Francisco and New York, including a dozen employers and dozens *more* tech companies in terms of interviews, office tours, meetups, friends' employers, etc. I've seen it all -- from the plush & swanky to the dark & dingy -- and unfortunately there's not a lot of variety to report. Ultimately, every company wants you to work your butt off using a various combination of carrots and sticks. And yes, the perks (or "perks") are generally for optics/recruiting, and they also serve as an excuse to pay you less and/or pressure you into working nights & weekends "when there's a deadline" (which is *always*). Econify is not like that. It is genuinely the only company I've seen in my entire career (and I'm including the dozens I saw/interviewed with but never worked for) that seems to actually care about the well-being of its employees, and about what creates happy & healthy humans in general. It's the refreshing breath of crisp air that one would think *must* exist in this universe (since non-stressed humans will generally produce better results when their job requires creative and deep thinking), and yet, paradoxically, heretofore seemed to not. Econify wins because it knows that chronically-stressed engineers don't perform as well as happy ones, plain and simple. Thus, other companies who need better-performing software engineers quickly and rent them from Econify are constantly asking "How does Econify do it? How do they attract, breed, and retain high quality software engineers?" It's simple, really: be sincerely and genuinely interested and invested in their well-being. Full stop. There's literally nothing significant I can say here. They really value your work life balance like no other employer I’ve ever worked with, and will go to great lengths to make sure clients never take advantage of us. I am surrounded by senior engineers who I can brainstorm and debate complex software engineering patterns and practices with on a daily basis, which in turn has caused me to grow 10 fold as an engineer myself. We work with many different clients and are rotated out every 1-2 years, so we constantly get to work with the latest technologies, while solving new complex problems. It’s not enough to write software that just works. You will be expected to make sure you are always writing clean, reusable, easy to follow code. I grew a lot as a developer while working at Econify, in large part because I was exposed to a variety of problems I just wouldn't have seen elsewhere. I've been a software engineer for a number of different companies and Econify was by far the best experience. The lunch options around the office are a little sparse. One of the best managers/owners I've ever worked with. Get to work with a variety of great clients. Lots of opportunity to use a varied skillset. You're rewarded for your effort. A feeling of closeness to all you collegues that is almost impossible to find with a consulting company. It's IT consulting so sometimes you have to deal with clients at that are difficult. It's a small team so when there's a lull in the work things can be a little worrisome. The work isn't for everyone. It can be demanding in expectations. You have to be very good at what your do. It's a hard thing to do, but either the internal projects need to grow to a point it can sustain the company, or the consulting needs to grow to a point more people can be on the bench between contracts.
