Dedicated faculty and staff, backward leadership

The faculty and staff at the college work very hard to support students with selfless hard work. The student experience is wonderful in many programs. Student support services are excellent. Most people outside of higher-level leadership are mission-driven and clearly care about the college values. Many faculty and staff receive free college tuition for their kids.

Poor leadership that does not provide basic resources for staff and faculty to do their work well, very low pay, very high turnover, constant broken promises, conflict-averse managers who do not tell the truth to upper level leaders. IT support is excellent for top leaders and very poor for everyone else. There is poor communication from leaders to faculty and staff, and an arrogant lack of interest in what we might learn from outside our institution. Strong resistance to innovation. People are given heavier and heavier workloads without changes in titles and compensation.

Create accountability systems so that people are recognized for good work and so that IT programs can be brought into the 21st century. Promote people who act like leaders to leadership positions and then empower them to lead. Remove people from leadership roles if they are missing in action.
