While it seems like demanding more is a good management strategy, using stress as a motivator for people who need to think clearly is the oldest, most obvious mistake you can make. Some humility would be in order. The saccharine tone of the all-hands meetings was unpleasant, and it was not motivational to listen to you praise each other.

Product helps some of its users sleep better. Marketing team is strong . Some of the engineers are quite talented.

Fires employees without warning or input from the employee, and then dishonestly drags their name through the mud internally to make the firing seem justified. Politics run thick here. Be careful not to outshine the wrong people. people management and performance management aren’t done proactively on the engineering team. If you are a technical leader, good luck handling conflicts and getting support for your initiatives.
