Very small company with a high turn over rate. It always seemed like management was watching over your shoulder and didn't have much trust with their employees. If you were one minute late a single time for work you would be talked to.

Company is very nice, Not a normal dev job

I am very appreciative of my time at EpiGentek.
Questionable if it is a good entry level position. You can learn, but you have to really put in effort to improve your skills. The overall lack of any other developers can make the position difficult at times. However, if you are truly passionate about the field this isn't the worst place to start.
The company is enjoyable to work for and all the employees are very likeable. The only draw back is the positions lack of growth.

Great place to learn a lot
|
I was at EpiGentek for a little over a year. I learned so much in my time there that helped me grow as a person and as salesman. The bosses expect a lot out of you and give you a great opportunity to do things beyond sales. But if you have any questions about things, their door is always open to ask your questions. You get a strong sense of pride and fulfillment working for a company that helps assist scientists in cancer research and beyond. Working on the sales team you get the opportunity to travel to trade shows and meet scientists. The co-workers at this company really made it great to work here. I was able to talk with them and have good personal relationships outside the office. They would have company wide pizza parties and holiday parties at times as well. The hours were very convenient for those commuting far distances or those who have families. Everyone knows everyone and gets along very well with each other. Pay could be better for everyone but overall, I was very appreciative of my time at EpiGentek.

Good place to gain skills and experience

I’ve been working at Epigentek for more than a year and so far it has been a positive experience. A typical 8-hr day is spent in a quiet, relaxed environment with friendly coworkers.
Management does expect punctuality and reliability, like many companies do. They expect quality work from every employee and are open to suggestions that may improve the workplace. I have never felt afraid to bring up any questions/ issues concerning my job or safety. Customer satisfaction is very important to the owners and is also expected to be an important part of your job if you work here.
Its a good place for recent graduates looking to start in their fields. Pay is fair for the work you are assigned and the experience gained adds to your resume. Overall, it’s a good company that provides you with great work/life balance.

Terrible Work Environment

If I could rate this company with 0 stars I would. The lack of communication and language barrier creates a detrimental work environment, where it is close to impossible to please anyone. You are not allowed to talk to your co-workers and you are constantly being watched and judged as you do your work. Management is incapable of respecting your privacy, feelings, and capabilities. They do not tolerate any deviance from the rules that are in their heads. Products sent out by the company are subpar and often years old. The kit you receive may very well be from 2014 (even though they ensure the ingredients are good until 6 months from the date the kit is made). The lab area is filthy and unsafe. DO NOT work here. The past 5 positions have left in under 8 months of employment. They under pay their workers. They expect you to arrive at 9:30 AM on the dot everyday even though the building does not open until the bosses arrive (which is anywhere from 9:25 - 9:30). Management does not trust their employees. I have never felt so disrespected in my professional career. Please... if you are interviewing for a lab position ask to see the lab during your interview and you'll understand, there is a reason they hide it from you during the interview process.

Great place to start a career
|
Nice relaxed work atmosphere, was never asked to stay late the two years I worked there. Great for people looking to get a start in their field. I learned at ton working here.
Management is fair and reasonable, if you put in the work and show up on time there will be no issues. Its a small company and everyone was super nice and easy to work with.

Good teamwork

I enjoyed working at Epigentek. It is a fast paced job but my coworkers were all team players who helped each other.
I felt that management were approachable and I was able to throw suggestions on how to make my work more efficient. However, there is definitely room for improvement in terms of management. Other than that, I never had any problems I couldn't hold back from telling my bosses.

Having been here for several years and moving up in the marketing department, I can definitely say that EpiGentek is a great place to work, where you can develop and learn new skills and be among people who are nothing but friendly and helpful. Working at a biotech company that focuses on epigenetics makes for a really engaging and fulfilling workday -- you’re immersed in an industry in which you consistently learn something new, face new challenges, and experience cutting-edge developments.
The workplace culture is great and continues to get better as the company grows. We celebrate birthdays with cake, have pizza parties, holiday events, and some team building activities, like our Easter egg drop competition… which was seriously way more fun than I expected. There aren’t any cliques here like some other places -- everyone is so friendly and you can learn a lot from your coworkers. I’ve never felt uncomfortable to ask for help if needed, because everyone is willing to pitch in and work as a team.
I would say there’s opportunity to move up if you’re dedicated, work hard, and take initiative. I started as an assistant and worked my way up to a more specialized position in the marketing department. You certainly gain a lot of experience here and can have the opportunity to take on many different tasks.
In terms of management, they're professional and always striving to make the workplace as positive as possible, often taking note of any suggestions we may have. They definitely seem to care about their employees and work with you. It’s nice to be among managers who care about you not only as an employee but also just as a person.
Overall, I think EpiGentek is an engaging and enjoyable place to work that’s also intellectually challenging. I love spending my days working with the people here, gaining experiencing and improving my skills, and am very happy to be with the company as it continues to grow!

Gained nice experience through easy work and easy hours
|
Co-workers were friendly. Convenient location. Didn't have much interaction with management but the main manager seemed nice and door was always open. Learned a lot of business tools and concepts. Small company, but not much startup vibe though. Seemed like people just came in, worked, then went home as soon as the clock hit, although I had no complaints about that. Work was easy, but fairly stimulating. Was offered opportunity to stay on full time, and might've stayed on but I realized I don't have much interest in biology.

I found this company to be the MOST difficult to work for. Rules are constantly changing but I assume this is typical for such a new company. Some of management can be EXTREMELY unprofessional and rude to employees. They are also extremely suspicious of everything which makes working uncomfortable. Be prepared to stay on your toes. They don't want you to speak to your coworkers so the environment can become extremely quiet at times. This place is best for introverts. Pay is very low especially for those holding a degree. I see efforts made by management to create a more comfortable environment but that doesn't make up for the way the employees are treated 80% of the time. Even though I was only there for a short time, I couldn't take working for this company one more day! I found myself unhappy 90% of the time. I would not recommend this company to work for honestly. I suppose it's best for recent graduates only. Just about everyone seems to have the same issues with the company but only few speak up. Most just end up leaving.
The lead scientist is VERY knowledgable and is constantly taking all necessary steps to ensure customers are getting the best products. The quality of manufactured products and customer service are very important to this company.
