Great job for people not looking to advance

If you solely want easy income this is the job for you. I was never asked to do more than my job description. The work schedule was flexible and the coworkers were easy going. Managers definitely micromanaged but that’s what managers at most jobs do. Most people working the same positions didn’t have equal pay. Remember to advocate for yourself

Overhyped company underappreciated staff
|
Soho is a gem in NYC, it takes a certain person to want to work there considering how much of a tourist destination it has become. The staff that work in the store are an eclectic group that embrace the area and make the work fun. However there is a divide between the management staff and the rest of the staff. Maybe it is because of the "Mom and pop" mentality they have yet to realize they've outgrown their infastructure, they've asked the foh/boh to out perform themselves to make "goals" yet even after months of surpassing these goals people are not giving proper reviews and growth plans in the company. The language used by the management is so relaxed that their message has been confusing to customers and employees, especially when their actions do not match their words.
It is contradicting to hire people who "have worked in the industry" yet they run this business as if nobody has worked in retail. This overcompensation of business practice undermines the mission statements made by the company.
Fast fashion and "sustainability" have intersected with this brand to the point where it is time to make moves and truly grow into a company that cares about the people with "Full Transparency".

People who work there are better than the company
|
It's upsetting to work for a company that has such strong views about sustainablility and using ethical factories but refuses to pay their employees a living working wage, even when they are promoted to full-time! To constantly fall back on the idiom "well, the retail model will never change" is insulting. The people who work their are some of the kindest people I have ever met but are overworked, under-payed and asked to perform at a level that doesn't meet the circumstances allotted. Higher ups speak in a language and with terminology that is from another planet. If you see your employees are dissatisfied, why would you pretend everything is great? Unfortunately, this opportunity is just like other internet sales to brick and mortar start-ups- they sell a changing-of-the-tides without giving an ounce of care about the people they employ.

The company culture here is great, but I personally did not feel as though management cared about the success of the employee. Compensation is very low - I knew several people who had to have multiple jobs in addition to their full time role at Everlane in order to pay their bills. The plus is that most people there are delightful to work with and they provide free food.
