Company laid off more than half of its employees. Met some wonderful co workers but everyone was always complaining and no one felt appreciated no matter how hard we worked. Some of the conditions in the houses were horrendous, hoarder style. Great if you are interested in e-commerce or consignment. private:everythingbutthehouseebth https://www.indeed.com/cmp/everything-but-the-house/reviews Sep 18th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Everything But The House Former employee Ohio All of the "isms" You Can Name In this ex-employee's opinion, working at EBTH you will have a bird's eye view of all of the "isms' you can name: favoritism, sexism, nepotism, racism, ageism and clique-ism; not to mention veiled misogyny. There is zero transparency in management with no org chart to know who does what, leaving people to guess or scramble for answers to the most basic questions unless they are involved in a favored clique. There is no support for employee development, which includes a glaring lack of performance or merit review and no real training for the type of work performed outside of professional positions in the HQ. Each area is completely siloed and it's sink or swim, with pending layoffs a constant fear. After the inevitable layoffs, the baffling selection of inexperienced supervisors and line staff chosen to remain employed creates an environment of chaos and uncertainty. The backbone of the company are its catalogers and editors, who are dismissed as drones expected only to meet productivity metrics. Pay is not at industry standards and healthcare is expensive. No matching 401K; forget stock options. There is no "culture" other than that of passive-aggressive intimidation and apathy on the part of supervisors. To be fair, a number of supervisors are in a stranglehold of confusing or unrealistic expectations. Contributions or ideas for improving efficiency or training are not valued, let alone acknowledged. The original vision of helping those in a distressing situation was lost long ago in favor of maximizing profits for shareholders. Interesting items and stories behind them, and many employees who have a desire to actually help clients, many degreed individuals with deep knowledge in specific categories.
