I was there during a time where there were some hostile colleagues and leadership was really struggling to part ways with them. Also, they hired someone who was less qualified than me for a position I applied for which is why I left.

If you are an independent self-starter who wants to practice a technical skillset for the benefit of nonprofits, this is the place for you. Exponent has a hard-working, motivated team and has done a wonderful job of building culture and camaraderie despite being a remote company. Most customers are prepared and ready to make the investment in time and resources, leading to incredibly collaborative, productive engagements. I've found this job to be incredibly rewarding. There is an earnest effort toward engaging in conversations and action around diversity and inclusion.

The propensity to occasionally take on too-big-to-fail projects that go sideways and gobble up staff time, leading to burnout and turnover. There is also room for improvement in too-rosy customer expectations around estimate and scope set by the Sales team, which have to be regularly be corrected by the service delivery team.

Give consultants the support they need to succeed. I (a former employee) shouldn't have to be on the phone after I've already left the company, emotionally and logistically supporting consultants because the people they need for support are unavailable, whether because they're overworked or just unresponsive. Get a Slack setup already (EVERYONE wants it) so people floundering can ask for help in real time like they need in a remote environment. A friendly and kind group of people, but working at the company is really not a pleasure, particularly in contrast to one of their major competitors where other consultants are available for each other to help out and support each other. Please end the misery and create the supportive environment people need -- that means more than a Chatter feed and a one hour company-wide every two weeks.

Exponent's clients are great, its work in the nonprofit sector is something to be proud of, and its senior management are great, smart people. It has a huge amount of potential and almost everyone I've worked with delivers quality work and a thoughtful approach.

Internal processes have been far more of a labyrinth than they particularly need to be, and enforcement is lax. Dividing up the work into program-related practice areas feels premature for a company of its size. The culture feels disparate even for a remote company -- even something as simple as a Slack channel could make everyone feel more connected.

Not equipped to handle some large scale projects they take on. High turn over in project managers on the project I was on. Senior management only gets involved when absolutely necessary when they should be more involved in some of these large projects from day 1.
