I work with intelligent, collaborative and incredibly hard-working people in my specific location. The showroom is elegant, upscale and an overall nice environment to work in.

Management is very antiquated in their way of thinking. There is a common sentiment among employees where our worth to this company is measured only by how much money we make the owners. Employees lack motivation, as there is no incentive for exceeding monthly sales goals- simply a "good job" is sufficient recognition to the managers. Sales associates are given no autonomy to make any small adjustments to the showroom that would improve operation efficiency and overall morale. Every single change has to be approved by the owners, not even the manager has the authority. There is no true sense of community or office culture, which is probably attributed to the lack of an HR department.

I am only speaking about 1 showroom in particular. I was discriminated against and experienced racism. I was also harrassed for months by a co worker who is clearly an alcoholic, and reeked of vomit one of the days. He was hungover most Monday's and even bragged about being hung over his first day on the job... or the time he shut all the lights off and fell asleep on the floor from being hungover. For that matter, most of his conversation is about drinking, getting 'Blackout' or some sort of party. Micro managed down to each and every E-mail. I was screamed at, belittled in front of colleagues and spoken to viciously on a regular basis. Not just myself, other coworkers as well. I was also told I was not 'articulate'... which is a joke. The job reached an all time low as the racism increased. One day, a coworker insisted I watch a video of a wite women in black face, while he laughed. I was appalled.

-if you make their high expectations you can move up to the company and even work at another showroom in different part of the country or state
|
-one week vacation and it would increase up to two weeks in four years of work
-fire to quick
-no training and no respect if you have prior experience because their way is the only right way
-they don't care if you have any medical conditions if you are sick or pregnant
-you have to check with manager every time you have a potential client and they could just take it and keep the commission
-owners are annoying and rude that have no interest in you unless you kiss their butt
-managers are cold and don't offer any support
-management critic your outfits or hairstyle everyday and they don't hold back
-no freedom to have a lunch on your own unless if you have to buy food but even then you have to sit together and eat at the same time even if one of them isn't ready
-they talk down to you like you are stupid
-working hard is not enough, they have to like you vibe and personality in order for them to like you
-outdated website and catalogs... no one really uses catalogs anymore, unless it's IKEA

Train your employees. People don't just look for a job for a check. They want to learn and grow and make your company greater. But if you fire without even allowing them to try or show them how you want things compared to their experience in the past, they will fail. But not everyone is a failed. People sometimes are quiet because they are observing and learning, because they want to be the best. Check every so often during the day to see if your employee is learning and have questions and prepare them to succeed by having a workload ready for them to learn. A good manager doesn't fire, they strive to push and have them succeed. Stop being so stuck up!

This is a great company with a lot of heart and soul at its core. First they import the best available materials from all over the world. We get to work with some of the largest and best designers and firm in the world on beautiful and inspiring homes and commercial spaces. The owners really care about each employee! If we ever have a problem, we can pick up the phone and have a solution right away without any corporate hoops to jump through.

When coming out with new materials sometimes there is a period where there is unanswered question on availability/ sizes. This can cause confusion between the employees and clients when it comes to expectations.
