The company is large but it feels like you actually know everyone. It doesn't take much to get the recognition you're looking for and I think they're a fair decent group to work for. I miss them terribly.
|
As for most employers I think that your management makes a huge difference. Things are a little gray in that area and I'm only speaking on personal experience. So it should be taken with a grain of salt. I think that maybe when training management there should be a little more corporate training or involvement. It seems like most managers that aren't seasoned are incredibly confused or ill-prepared for the tasks at hand.

Insurance and benefits. Pay including commission was okay, especially if you make top sales on spiffs. Daily training app gets you points to get prizes. I got an Amazon Firestick once before I left.

With the fast paced work environment, it was easy to make simple mistakes and large errors that effected the patient's prescriptions, experience, and views of the company. There was a lot of "We all make the same mistakes", to throwing each other under the bus with "Yeah *enter employee's name here* really screwed up, but I will fix this for you" on a daily basis. I assumed that in optical, it would be a very relaxed and professional, but it was so fast paced that we looked like we were constantly bumbling around and running around each other. The patients also tend to be very entitled and rude. A lot of people over-sharing their intimate life details. I spent a lot of time crying out of frustration because I could not meet the expectations to be quick, and be the best in sales, and make little to no mistakes, all the while taking home your patient's entire life stories because you share a desk with them for 2 hours trying to try to generate higher sales. I saw a lot of the girls I worked with go to the back to have emotional breakdowns because patients treated them so horribly. We had one that abused the doctor's staff until they cried and banned her, then made me cry, and my manager still sold glasses to her. It was a slap in the face. There is definitely playing favorites with patients and employees. The daily training app was usually done off the clock unpaid as we were too busy most weeks. We got pizza parties on Saturdays as rewards quite often for meeting and exceeding goals.

Have a zero tolerance policy for patients abusing staff with management. They need to step in and intervene before situations get out of hand. Provide resources and benefits for mental health as multiple staff members seem to be losing their mental fortitude every day. Though I understand the service is supposed to be fast, I believe there needs to be a standard implemented to prevent workplace burnout. The staff overwork themselves to a fine dust daily. It is not sustainable.
