It was fun and the banter with co-workers was good. The culture from the employees is great The management is toxic. It really seems that they will say anything to make you sign on the dotted line. One owner is really aggressive but other times seems sane. At FanMaker you are given the opportunity to grow and succeed on a daily basis. Management/Ownership does not micro management their employees, Instead, they trust their employees to work with their clients and projects in a sufficient and high quality manner. Working in sports was always a dream of mine and ownership has believed in me since day one, and also believe in me for the future of the company. The work hours are very flexible as, If you ever need to work remote, thats always acceptable. The overall culture of the employees is very positive. Ownership also rewards for employees that invest time and effort into their work. The incentive plans for sales/retention is very good for a smaller company. Not just growing the company, but growing yourself as well. The founders reward competence & success with responsibility and more freedom to pursue what you think would add value to the company, which really helps you grow your career by working on the things you want to learn and are passionate about. We're all on board with the same goal: make FanMaker better. As a developer, I believe we have something that a lot of buzzword-happy high-tech companies claim to support, don't actually practice. That is the freedom to fail. I personally have failed on many occasions here, but, the consistent response to those failures has always been geared towards learning from whatever mistake I made and moving forward. It's absolutely awesome to know that even if something completely blows up in your face, the culture here accepts that so long as you learn from that mistake, work hard to correct it, and move forward. And now for some more commonplace pros: 1) Will give you whatever tech you need to get the job done efficiently. They won't make you mess around with some old windows machine that spits out dust when it fires up. 2) Well-stocked fridge 3) Freedom to work remotely when needed 4) Flexible working hours 5) Ability to talk directly to the founders whenever you need to 6) Warehouse District MSP location is fun 7) Frequent Happy Hours and Parties The cons to working here really depend on your personal preferences in a workplace. If you like structure and a lot of hand-holding oversight, this isn't the place for you. If you want a clearly defined set of responsibilities and duties to perform, this probably isn't the place for you. If you don't want a goal-driven environment where people are held accountable for their work, this probably isn't the place for you. One of the two cofounders/owners is well meaning and positive but a bit scatterbrained. He manages the business side of things, but is sometimes too smart for his own good. Nice guy overall. The other cofounder/owner who manages the creative side is what makes fanmaker a place to avoid. As many other reviews have stated, he's an egomaniac who views employees as swine. He refuses to accept input from his employees as well as from clients, becomes enraged if you question anything related to the company or your job, and will berate and demean and degrade anybody at any time for any reason. If you are offered a position at fanmaker, I encourage you to call the one owner and reference all of these reviews and explain that you are concerned about the work environment that the other owner creates. It's casual, flexible with your schedule, and almost the entire staff is under 30. The office itself is in a great location. Beer fridge, ping pong, and the promise of happy hours & travel. This job was not at all what they led me to believe it would be when I started. I feel like I wasted important time in my career with this company. The only thing I learned was what NOT to do as a manager. It was hard to be excited about coming to work when I didn't trust a single thing that came out of management's mouth. Everything is done for their benefit and employees don't matter. Management knows how to dictate people, but they don't know a single thing about leading them. I never once felt valued. In fact, they often made me feel stupid for asking questions about things. They made promises they couldn't keep. Even things as simple as paying us on time. I have never seen adults act the way that management did, especially in a professional environment. It was unbelievable. I do things 100% but I have never felt so unmotivated in my work because of how I was treated. This company was a toxic environment that completely sucked the life out of me.
